Thanks OP - have ordered one for myself and one for my daughter. I've been intrigued by these for a while and at this price it's well worth trying.
(TMI alert)
I've developed an allergy to 'ladies things' so have to buy posh, expensive ones from Waitrose - I must have a very middle class fanjo.:o Hopefully this will save me a fortune over the years. :money:0 -

As you can keep it in while going to the loo, I assume you can still keep it in when showering?Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090

Just wondered - surely if your period is 4-5 days you would have to keep sterilising this at least every 12 hours or so to prevent build-up of bacteria, considering it is going into your 'insides'
? Tampons come 'sterilised' and wrapped already. (Sorry about gross question).

You'll be emptying and washing it at least twice in 24 hours. It doesn't need to be sterilised every time as your fanjo (GREAT word :rotfl:) isn't sterile.
On the Mooncup thread on ethical moneysaving there was a brief discussion about whether it really needed to be sterilised between periods either. One poster confessed that she puts hers through the dishwasherThey call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -

Because its made of silicone it doesn't have the same propensity for bacteria to breed, which is why with these, unlike tampons, there have been no reports of TSS.
I only sterilise mine after my period has finished, otherwise I just empty it and clean with hot water and soap.0 -

( I do occasionally soak it in strilising tablets as they do discolour and soaking in baby sterilising tablets brings them back bright!)0 -

Tampons are not sterile, nor are willies, but people have no qualms about putting either, where the sun done shine
I dont clean mine during my period, it gets a quick swoosh under the tap after emptying, but thats only for cosmetic reasons, not hygiene purposes. Then once my period has ended, i put it in bowl of weak bleach and shower gel. Again, not so its clean, (because its going to sit in a drawer for thr next month) but because i like the silicone to stay white, rather than stained
Afaik, the cup creates a seal inside, so air doesnt get to the blood, so bacteria cant breed, one reason why TSS isnt a consideration when using cups0
