    also the other thing was if i was advised in right way i could have done a joint app with my wife as she is employed in same business making 8400pa

    that wud have helped a bit if it was multiples issue

    Joint application would help, if she has a clean credit history, yes.

    It's probably just a bit too much for Nationwide, IMHO, but joint is may sneak in. Try the affordability calculator and see.

    they said my income was income according to calc so said its not needed

    as in just 1 current account since 4 years and 1 phone line in her name since last 5 months
  • Is she your secretary and a % owner? If so it could help but treated as self emp also.

    Sounds like a cowboy advisor, if married, the default should be to put in joint names, with her income you would probably be ok.

    I don't think Wh05apk meant "default" as in "unpaid debt" but "default" as in "typical thing to do". I'd agree. Obviously the mortgage needs to be in the name(s) of who is buying the house, but you would imagine that would be the couple jointly without good reason.
