    Uninstall via add/remove programs:

    Windows Defender (it's currently disabled)

Uninstall at your discretion (You don't need them, but may use them):

    Easy-WebPrint
    Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer
    Nectar Search Toolbar
    Rapport
    RealPlayer Basic

    Disable CTFMON as follows:
    • Click Start > Control Panel
    • Double-click Regional and Language Options.
    • Click the Lanuages tab
    • Click Details...
    • Click the Advanced tab
    • Under System Configuration, check the Turn off advanced text services box
    • Click Apply > OK
    • Click Apply > OK

Then Download OTM by Old Timer from the libnk below and save it to your Desktop.

The script below will stop explorer & your desktop will temporarily disappear (it will return on reboot), & your recycle bin will be emptied.
    • Double click OTM.exe to run it.
    • Highlight & copy all the following code inside the codebox below. Do not include the word Code:

    • Push the large MoveIt! button.
    • Click OK to the prompt

    Looks good.
    • Double-click OTM.exe
    • Click the CleanUp! button
    • Select Yes when the Begin cleanup Process? Prompt appears
    • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes
    • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself

It should be running a little better now. There's not much more you can do that's going to make a significant difference other than upgrading the RAM.

I've found other browsers to be better with XP than IE8. Take a look at Chrome
  • Many many thanks for all your assistance over the past couple of weeks. My computer is running better than its ever been. I dont understand what you meant at the end about browsers - best stop while I'm ahead!

    Once again, appreciate your help.
