Very dodgy and a nightmare if you crash on the way home; would you buy the crashed car? who's insurance is supposed to pay? I'm surprised he agreed. Why not just get him to drive it back for you and save taking the risk?UsernameAlreadyExists wrote: »Despite the plethora of counter points following ... I did exactly this. So you drove home without insurance. I was taking the p155 when I made that post.0 -
I had already handed over the cashVery dodgy and a nightmare if you crash on the way home; would you buy the crashed car?
The same as on the test drive.who's insurance is supposed to pay?

No, I drove home insured.
Why?
So you have a special insurance that allows you to drive anything?0 -
He was relying on the 'drive another car not owned by yourself with the owners permission' clause that some, but not all, insurance certificates have.
However the fact that he had already 'handed over the cash' meant he had bought it and therefore it was by himself. I think he was not insured in this case to drive home having handed over the money before leaving for home; it was clearly no longer a 'test drive'.0 -
Yeah, we believe you.Chopper_Read wrote: »I was taking the p155 when I made that post.

Although judging by these cases there's a good chance the police officer would have lied for the poster, but looking at these they would probably have ended up getting found out...

Well you can doubt what you like! I am hardly going to start proving anything to you

I really don't see what people are getting so hung up about.
If you're going to buy a car privately then you'll want to test drive it. When you put the money in their hand to take it out for a spin ( as a security that you won't just drive away with it! ) ... what's the difference? You'd be driving under the DOC cover, and you can still run over kittens and children.
Also ... if you're "not insured", and you "don't crash" - is there a problem?0 -
one thing to consider when getting insurance straight away is that I have found that it can be more expensive to get the insurance next day than say a week. for example i was looking at mine for when my drive away finished. If i had not got driveaway it would have been around £50-£80 more expensive then waiting 5-7 days. Not a lot in the grand scheme of things but its a little MSE tip!0
