Oafs in the gym

You're doing really well JoJo and I'm so pleased you have moved out of the morbidly obese category, well done!
If you've been eating very low calories over a prolonged period of time, then the chances are you aren't gaining muscle, just losing fat to show off what is already there. Muscle building takes an excess of calories above maintenance level and it's a very hard and long process.
For example, I just posted a picture to my FB page today which shows my progress over the last three years:
Facebook page
Three years of heavy lifting and good eating, along with a lot of perseverance and consistency. I also had prolonged periods of eating above maintenance calories in order to grow.
And for the record, I'm still classed as "overweight" but I couldn't give a damn what the scale says - I look good, in and out of clothes0 -
Wow! If I can do that over the next few years I'll be a happy lady
Nice work!

Thanks HBS, it's been a long and slow process but I'm in no rush0

And for the first time ever, I had a negative comment on one of my pictures over on FB, I suspect from someone here.
I don't lift weights to make myself physically appealing to other people, I do what I do because it's my passion, it's what I love. I love pushing my body and seeing what it can do. I love knowing I can walk into the gym and pull 130kg off the ground. I love having a firm but curvaceous figure.
It may surprise some people but us ladies that lift do not walk around flexing our muscles on a daily basis. Mostly, we look pretty normal (and awesome!) in clothes...
and damn good out of them
JoJo apologies for the hijack :kisses3:0 -
You look fantastic Just a girl!
Fabulous figure xx0 -
I think you look great! You're obviously healthy, comfortable and happy - where we all want to be

If I looked like that, I'd be hijacking everywhere
Why on earth would anyone -
Oh. Yeah. Same sort of attitude to others as the meatheads I encountered.
Went back to the gym today anyhow. Gym and then aqua zumba (which is actually quite fun).
And I really, really enjoyed my treat Chinese meal this evening (squid, veg and rice). It was inside the limits!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Pleased you are cracking on and ignoring the idiots jojo.
I think the secret with anything like this is that only you can bring you down. Considering everything else you have going on i'd consider you inspirational.
JAG the hijacker; I'm not sure why anybody would say anything negative about those pictures.
Your figure looks pretty stunning to me.0 -
Man stuff like that p's me off, especially when the people that do it are generally proponents of "broscience" - truth is what you're doing is the proper way & what they're doing is more often than not vanity! They're the guys who every time a new fad workout arrives they'll be over it like flies round poop but the reality is half of them have never learned how to lift properly, half of them never learned how to work out properly & half of them will spout nonsense at will.
Just remind yourself that not everyone goes to the gym to turn into a tank - some of us do it because we want to do something about weight issues and believe it or not, excess weight doesn't just disappear! That's why the proper gym goers not only accept people like you, but will actually offer advice if asked & be happy to see you. They don't judge because chances are if you see 2-3 of them standing, atleast one of them was "morbidly obese" at some point as well.
I'd love to know what this zombie stuff is all about though, currently I'm jogging along & frankly it'd be more fun if there was a zombie behind me - although I'd have to resist temptation to go all Shaun of the Dead. Where I go is getting new machines in at the end of this month (not before time!) with all sorts of screens & crap, so I'm hoping there'll be some stuff on there to make 10 minutes of jogging a little less boring!
JAG - great work by the way, granted I'm not one who likes women who can lift more than me (hey, there has to be some evidence of me being a man right?) but you look great for it.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
I was in the gym last night and there were people of all shapes and sizes there. I just think good on all of us for making the effort!0
