Cute, aren't they?
I've been going regularly since I joined. Very regularly.
I'm about (checks My Fitness Pal) 30lbs down, have progressed from the first induction workout to doing a mixture of stuff - including a Zombie 5k training on the treadmill, as the weights have already stabilised my joints enough to make it safe to follow (carefully), a wider range of weight training (I can do 90 kgs on the abductor, btw :A:), interspersed with swimming and I've just done my first pure Pilates class. Which could have been so very much worse, but there were things that I could do without dying.
And I have rest days, days where I'll go quite light, some where I'm going and going and going. I have no intention of killing myself or breaking something - I already have in depth knowledge of plantar fasciitis, including steroid injections, shin splints and rotator cuff tears from previous lives as a bit of a nut.
Anyhow, none of that mattered to the two meatheads that left their changing room just after I walked past from getting changed this morning.
I got repeatedly oinked at.
Now, whilst I am made of slightly stronger stuff - instead of dissolving into tears, running away from the gym never to be seen again or contemplating self harm, I was weighing up in my mind whether the security camera would catch footage if I were to kickbox his stupid face down the stairs (I decided against it) - the gym should be the last place to abuse somebody for not being perfect. And someone else might have been extremely distressed.
There's no real point to my posting other than, if anyone ever thinks of the fat bird on the treadmill jogging for 15 seconds before walking again, or the huge guy with the tiny weights, that they have no place in 'your' gym - well, all I can say is that I am sorry your life is no devoid of meaning and self worth that you only feel alive when you are attempting to make somebody else feel worse than you.

I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Idiots
To be honest I think you should say something to gym staff about this. It's totally inappropriate behaviour. Imagine if they did that to someone on their first visit. They'd never come back. They should be held to account over it.
I am old enough now to say 'you should be ashamed of yourself' when someone behaves oafishly (as long as I'm not anywhere they might give me a kicking that is). They giggle but if you stare them out, it dies away! And I've always felt better for at least calling them out and facing them down.
I'm so glad you haven't let them put you off! This is about their insecurities, not about you at all.
And wow well done on the weightloss!!!
PS this has never happened me in the gym!0 -
It sounds like you are doing really well. I'd speak to the gym manager about these idiots.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I always get paranoid people will say stuff to me in the gym, but thankfully so far nobody has (well not to my face).
Its annoying though, how dare they behave in that way towards you, you're there because you're obviously trying to get fitter/healthier so how dare they be like thatThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It's absolutely no place for it... in fact there IS no place for it.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

First of all, well done on losing over two stones in weight!
Now to the idiots, I suspect that they are mates and new to the gym. They will probably just stick to the weights, stand in front of the mirrors preening themselves, and be on the lookout for young, "fit" girls.
They are just evidence that the "missing link" is alive and well in our society.
You could have a quiet word with gym staff, but best to ignore them, or if they do make any more noises - this is probably the extent of their communication skills to be fair, then have a word with them, letting other people hear as well. Although they are very good at making snidey remarks/noises, I bet they wouldn't be so brave if someone challenged them about it.
Good luck!0 -
That's really sad to hear, Jojo. Definitely speak to the gym manager about it, it was this kind of behaviour that triggered my bulimia years ago.
Thankfully, my current gym is pretty awesome - not too many posey boys and those that are there seem to ignore anyone and anything except the mirror. Only time I've had anything said was "you can't lift that" at which point I proved him wrong and he sulked. Usually everyone is very encouraging
Hopefully they'll drop a dumbbell on their foot or something!

Mine's terrible for the muscle-boys. Grunting, shouting, dropping weights really noisily, completely taking over the free weight area...... (nice to look at though, some of them). I know if I go after around 6 in the evening they will all be there so I just choose carefully if I'm in a mood where I know they're going to grate on my nerves!

Arrghh dropping weights drives me mad unless it's Olympic weightlifting where it's required - I wonder if the "powerlifters" or bodybuilders know they'd lose marks in competition for dropping the weights?
The first time I went in I was terrified - I read an article that essentially said that to do anything you just need 20 seconds of extreme courage - so I used my 20 seconds to walk in there and pick up a barbellAfter that I was lucky enough to talk to a couple of the lovely powerlifters and always have someone to say hi to now.
My favourite thing to laugh at is where the poser boys lie down on the dumbbell bench, get their mates to load them up with too-heavy dumbbells, do half a rep, drop the weights and look really pleased with themselves...

Ha! Are you sure we're not at the same gym!?******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
Definitely sounds like it
Apparently I give off "no, no, nothing to see here, just tinyshort girl working out, look away please" vibes when lifting in the corner so you might not notice me
Aren't you the lady with the spit-and-sawdust gym that I'm so jealous of?
