Sorry to hear your trouble.
As has been said above, if you have a child aged 3yrs you are entitled to government funding for a few hours a week for childcare, if you have a child who is 2yrs, in certain/special circumstances there is funding too....but you have to fit a certain criteria for the 2yr funding.
Hope things look up soon,0 -
Ok thank you I will look into that. I am assuming the days he is going to get paid is the holidays he has accrued so far this year.
I don't want to specify the reason for his sacking on here but he didn't steal, assault anyone or anything like that.
Is he paid a week in hand. i.e. when he started did he have to work a week without being paid on the friday, and then get his first salary the following week.
If so he is therefore owed last weeks salary, todays salary, 1 weeks notice pay and his holidays.
When does his annual leave year start. Does it run 1st Jan to 31st December? How many days leave has he had so far this annual leave year (I assume New Years day was one of them)?[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

With regards to partner looking after son while I'm at work obviosuly that is what we will have to do, however I still need to give a months notice to the nursery which I need to pay end March regardless. My salary usually pays for that and some of rent and partners wage pays for eveything else so without his we have a problem. As you know a full time nursery place is expense so not just talking a few £s. I am going to take my son to nursery today and speak with the manager when I pick him up. My son is under 2 so no funding.
I will find out exactly what he is being paid etc, he has only taken 1 days holiday so far this year, they run Jan-Dec.
He is going to apply online for JSA today (although unlikley will get any award) I will apply for HB any little is better than nothing, I have got a couple of numbers for local agencies who employ casual staff. There is a local Cab office I have told him to look it up while I'm at work and see if he can go speak to them.
My main concern is falling behind with all my bills and ending up in a worse position so will do all I can to reduce what I can for time being and ask a family member for help if I really have to although that is the last thing I want to do.
Thank you so much for your advice so far, I think I've answere all the questions asked apologies if I've missed any.0 -
I'm not sure if it's changed but I know that tax credits used to run on four weeks if your little one stopped going to nursery for cases just like this. So if you called today and said that they were stopping today then you would still get the payment for a month to put towards the childcare bill x really hope it all works out x0

Download the MSE budget planner for your revised budget, work through MSE to identify where you can slash spending.
See the Direct Gov website about debt management advice so you understand what bills are a priority for payment and which ones are not priorities.0 -

As Aimeesmum has said, tax credits won't end the help with childacre straight away, you will get a run on , should be to Sat 30th March xSaving money like a trouper...0 -
Caz- I know a few people have asked because it does make a difference....
But was he sacked for doing something wrong? Or was he just terminated (its amazing how little rights you have within the first year of employment if they decide to get rid)?
If it was sacked for something then I get the feeling he might not be able to claim for a few months. Depends what his ex-employer tells the JSA people....0 -

I feel for you, it is so frightening when you have to live week to week.
Scarry isn,t it. Amazing how many people I have spoken to lately who are also doing this.
I personally have stopped going shopping on a friday and go on a tuesday and also take the meal shopping list with me and that is what I buy. Been saving quite a bit
Then a lady I know buy her meals on a daily basis as she cannot afford to do a weekly shop so just pops over to iceland and gets the evening meal.
Let,s hope things change pretty soon:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -
paulfoel - something important he was responsible for went missing, there will be an investigation. I can't go into too much detail as you'll understand.
Well just to update I have contacted sky to cancel my TV subscription, cancelled my gym membership, contacted virgin to ask for a better offer on my broadband (need this for job hunting etc), informed my landlord what is happening, spoke to my childcare provider and given noticepartner has applied for JSA conts but we know he'll get no award but will sign on anyway to get the NI conts paid, he has applied for tons of jobs already and has to call an agency back tomorrow. I have tonight applied for housing benefit online, got in touch with energy provider and filled out an application for a benevolent fund through my work to see if they can help us out at all. We have also looked out our childs crib, pram etc and are going to sell them for some extra cash. I am exhausted, have barely eaten the last few days due to stress and worry but hoping there's light at the end of the tunnel.
Thank you for everyone's kind words and advice.0 -

You say your partner has already been sacked but the company has yet to run an investigation?
Surely as I understand (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong) the investigation should come first, then the relevent action taken later.
If the company has not yet conducted an investigation into the matter, then IMHO, that is now grounds for unfair dismissal. They have not completed the relevent processes in order to establish whether the employee is guilty of gross misconduct.
If there has been no investigation as yet the most the employer should have done is to put the employee on suspension, which as far as I am aware, is a paid period, i.e. your partner should be paid his normal salary whilst suspended.
Only once a clear and unbiased investigation has taken place should your partner have been dismissed.
I urge you to speak to ACAS or an employment specialist solicitor who offers a free 30min/1hr initial consultation.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.
