Partner sacked today, help!

I need some urgent advice.
My partner has come home from work today to tell me he has been sakced!
He gets paid weekly, therefore be no wage this week. I get some tax credits on Thursday, I have a load of bills due by direct debit on Friday. I work 30 hours per week and son in in full time nursery.
I have no idea what I'm going to do. I literally feel sick with worry and no idea what to do.

Firstly take a deep breath.
He needs to sign on as soon as possible but he could well face a sanction due to being sacked. Contact tax credits as you may be able to get more.
While not working could your son come out of nursery and be looked after by your husband so saving money?
Take care.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Oh no poor you, I know that feeling and I know there's no point telling you not to worry.
First thing's first, call tax credits with your new figures, get your OH an appointment at JCP to sign on, so long as he's paid enough NI he'll get job seekers for 6 mths.
Apply for housing and council tax benefit.
Why was he sacked? Are the reasons disputed? If so get him to CAB for advice regarding a tribunal.
In the meantime, contact anyone expecting DD' which won't arrive to advise them of the situation. Get yourself on 'entitled to' or it may now be 'turn2us' for benefits checkup, it may make you feel a little better if you know what you're likely to have coming in.
Once again, I'm so sorry, I feel for you, what an awful situation.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
Can he appeal the sacking?
He should contact his union if he's in one otherwise ACAS, or CAB.0 -
Firstly your tax Credits will not pay for childcare, so you really need to let them know and that he isn't earning etc.
Apply for JSA but he may be sanctioned - that is their call depending on the reason.
If you are renting apply for Housing Benefit.0 -
Did he work a week in hand or maybe have some holiday pay owing?
I feel for you, it is so frightening when you have to live week to week.0 -
Really sorry to hear your bad news caz246. If he has been sacked he is still entitled to be paid his notice period, even if he doesn't work it.
I can appreciate you may not want to go into personal details but the circumstances surrounding it may enable people to give more specific advice?
For example if the company had gone bankrupt and he had worked there more two years he may be entitled to a Statutory Redundancy Payment. The most wasted day is one in which we have not laughed.0 -
He can only claim "JSA Conts only" don't bother with the full claim for "JSA C & IB"
He claims online or by phone 08000 556688
He could be sanctioned for 6 months and then he would not be entitled to any JSA C after that because he would have used up his 6 months allowance during the sanction period. How ever if he signed off from his NI credits only in September 2013 he could make a new claim tp JSA C in January 2014 and may qualify for 6 months.,,,
Alternatively he could decide not to claim JSA C for 6 months, and make his claim in October 2013, The question asked is "Have you had a job that ended in the last 6 months?" He could honestly answer "No" to that question. and when his claim gets processed, he would hope that they do not look into his last job that ended. Doing any job between now and October 2013 would help to hide the fact that he was sacked in March 2013.0 -
Thanks for advice. I will make sure he goes to jobcentre tomorrow, it's a 5 minute walk I know youneed an appointment but he can still go up and they can advise him.
It was a small company with only a few employees, he started 1st March last year so has literally only been there a year. He had no written contract. I told him I don't know how many times to sort that out but we were just happy he got a job (was out of work for a year and it was the frist he had been offered). So he wouldn't really have a leg to stand on. He is going to get a weeks pay, I didn't know this earlier I was trying to get my head around it all.
I have cried my tears and now trying to pull myself together, I have cancelled my gym membership (was a month to month baisi so that's not a problem) and I will give sky notice of my cancellation, been with them less than a year so can't cancel until April. I will cancel the direct debits due (gas and electricity) and contact them to advise of situation.
I still need to pay a months nursery fees as I need to give notice, my son loves nursery my heart is breaking at the thought of having to remove him0 -
There's no point him going to the jobcentre, they won't speak to him they will only give him a piece of paper and tell him to make a claim either online on the gov website or by telephone 08000 556688
He cannot get an appointment at the jobcentre until he has made his claim.
If his last day of employment is today, claim from tomorrow,
If his last day of employment will be yesterday then claim from today online completed before midnight.
If that's his work history he may not qualify for JSA C anyway......to qualify now he would have to have earned NI-able earnings in tax year 10/11 of £5200 (self employment does not count). And he would have to have been signing on to JSA for any unemployment periods up to March 2012 when he started work.
But if he doesn't qualify he should stay on JSA for NI credits only until at least April of this year and then claim JSA C again in January next year, when he might qualify for JSA C.....but again that would depend on whether he was on JSA during tax year 11/12 for all his unemployed periods up to March 2012.0 -

He had a contract albeit not written.
With being unemployed so recently he may not have enough contributions for JSA.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
