Which TV ads should be banned?

If is product is legal there is no justification for preventing the sellers from communicating to potential buyers.
Any product that ought not be advertised, ought not be sold.0 -
I haven't voted in the banned adverts poll because you fail to mention the one type of advert that should be banned; the car.
Count the adverts; you'll see that more than half are directly or indirectly in support of the car industry, but there's no mention that the car is the biggest killer of all for under thirty year olds and gets through a dozen people a day of all ages.
Even more importantly for a money-saving site, the car is horribly costly for no benefit. An individual car user can avoid most of the costs imposed on us by the other car users, as well as receiving massive state subsidy, but, far from being the basis of a transport system, millions of cars make it very difficult for anyone to get anywhere and for walkers and cyclists and bus users the roads are virtually unusable.
You need, I suppose, to advise individual motorists on how to make good buys when they have to, but you need also to point out that for the western world as a whole the car is a terrible waste of money.0 -
I completely agree about banning the charity ads, we cannot watch channel 4 at tea-time because every other ad is a long drawn out show of suffering, I have a very sensitive 6 yr old who is in tears every time one of these ads come on.
It was especially worse over christmas, one of our days was ruined by the influx of these throughout a family film resulting (if I wasn't fast enough with the remote) in almost hysteria by my daughter.
I agree, I have a very sensitive 7 year old and these adverts reduce him to tears every time.0 -
Hi
Which Twonks have replied to the Poll with the view Credit cards, ambulance chasers and Pay day loans are ok to advertise, but not to children.......? How would a child understand the nature of these business anyway? Nevermind the fact they would not be eligible for the services anyway by law0 -
I'd be happy with advertising any source of credit offering rates above, say, 20%, being banned...0

If you ban adverts... who will pay for the TV programmes? If you don't like the things they advertise, just ignore the adverts! Or, get yourself a PVR, record everything you want to watch, and skip the adverts when you watch the programme back (using this process, you can watch an entire X-factor in about 45 minutes!)0

I would like to see anti-smoking ads banned. They are mostly revolting to watch.
I'd also like to see a ban on Kevin Bacon drivelling on incomprehensibly about something or other.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

How do you know what ads your kids are watching in their bedrooms? How do you make sure they ignore the ads you don't like?Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I voted that payday loans are ok to advertise but not to children.
I think a child (aged 10, say) would understand what a loan means. I think the problem with them is that, when advertised to children, it makes them seem (to those children, or at least some of them) that taking out payday loans is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.0
