Which TV ads should be banned?

I totally agree with you on this one. I used to make a regular donation to NSPCC but when I realised how much it was costing them to advertise on TV and how much money they spend on marketing by post, I stopped donating. I want my money to be used to help the charity's service users, not to pay for expensive advertising.

If they spend £50k on an advert and receive £100k in donations from it, they aren't wasting your money, they are speculating to accumulate. If the ads generated a loss for them they would not make them, simple as that.If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
If you do like it please hit the thanks button.0 -
Every day I have my dinner around 5pm whilst I watch tv.
I am sick of advertising showing people or kids using the toilet, changing nappies, tampax, thrush, being sick, or anything else that I do not want to see when I am eating.
It puts me right off my food.
These should be band at dinner times.

oh yes I forgot & the ones from the BBC that I pay my rent for, so that I do not get adds!!!!!!!0 -
The explosion of ads for gambling sites send my blood pressure soaring. It is immoral - just fit tvs with a slot and feed tenners into it all night.0

I tend to record commercial TV channels so I can fast forward the ads. I do like the cat food ads cos they have cute cats, how sad is that?
I agree with some of the others that charity ads showing cruelty to children or animals should be banned and the online gambling sites.0 -
These kind of ads where they show starving children or the children drinking dirty water etc etc really upset my son, he finds it unsettling that there are children in the world suffering because people like us do not send our £3 per month to 'make a difference' in their lives.
Whilst i understand these situations are very real in some parts of the world, in the poorer countries especially, i don't think repeatedly showing these images at peak times for children to view is morally right either. I understand its good for children in this country to be aware that not all children are as lucky as they are and that others don't even have the luxury of clean water or enough food to eat, but the adverts can be quite distressing as well, especially for sensitive kids. The whole picture of their predicament is not adequately portrayed either and it falsely claims that sending the cash each month will solve all their problems which simply isn't so.
Just my personal opinion i know and maybe these adverts don't upset the majority of kids but they do unsettle my son. Yes, thats the world of advertising on the whole i understand that too but it doesn't make them right does it?
Id be interested to hear if they have the same adverse effect on any other kids or is it just mine?0 -
I strongly believe that ads for alcohol and gambling should be banned. These are very addictive and it must be hell for people fighting this addiction. We spend a fortune as taxpayers dealing with the consequences of addiction.HSBC joint £146 HSBC sole £2365 HSBC CC £11013 HSBC loan £456
MBNA £11543 Moorcroft £589 Lloyds CC £64
Barclaycard CC £327
5/3/2013 TOTAL £26503:eek:0 -
I completely agree about banning the charity ads, we cannot watch channel 4 at tea-time because every other ad is a long drawn out show of suffering, I have a very sensitive 6 yr old who is in tears every time one of these ads come on.
It was especially worse over christmas, one of our days was ruined by the influx of these throughout a family film resulting (if I wasn't fast enough with the remote) in almost hysteria by my daughter.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
I think one of the worst adverts at the moment is one for a dating website for casual hook ups (can't rememver the name but features man and woman going out to meet each other in their underwear). I admit I am partially jealous of said womans bottom (:oD) but what kind of message is that sending out? It may only air after 9pm, but there must be some children (and definitely teenagers) watching. Bacsically it is saying you need form no emotional attachment at all and that casual hook ups are the 'norm'.
I also detest the uniform dating advert because it's moronic!!
In fact, despite the fact I met my wonderful boyfriend on a dating site, most of their adverts annoy me! Not really sure why but I do find it odd that they always show happy, smiley single people instead of testimonials from people it's actually been successful for?!
Rant over as it's time to get back to work... :oD0 -
Anyway, I record things and skip over the ads.0
