Hi everyone
I'm getting married in Jan 2014, and currently starting to look for a dress.
I went to the National Wedding Show on Friday and saw a gorgeous dress on the catwalk....but it's black!!!
I think this is it, if not it is very similar:

Honestly guys - what would you think about a black wedding dress? I know it's my decision, but I guess I'm a bit worried what people might think as it is sooooo different!
And not sure it would go with my existing colour scheme, so might have to make some changes - currently thinking of silver and aubergine/dark purple....
I would welcome any comments, for or against
Thanks

I'm probably the wrong bride to ask seeing as my groom is wearing a wetsuit.... however I think if you like it then wear it.
I wouldn't think anything of a bride for wearing black, but I don't mind guests wearing white, not having anything blue and all the other saying's people, well, say.
Your wedding, and you can wear what you like :-)Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Personally I wouldn't wear black as I want the traditional wedding. However, I agree with Jax, it's your wedding so do what you want!"More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." - Harold J. Smith:cool:0

I would think it very strange for a bride to wear a black wedding dress and wonder why.
That said it's up to you and your prospective spouse.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Personally i wouldn't go for black or that actual dress either.. however everyone of us have different tastes and thats what makes us unique. If you feel beautiful in whatever dress you choose even if its black then thats all that matters. Don;t spend time worrying about what others think as you will never please everyone. Feeling a million dollars on your day is all that matters good luck with you day0

I think black looks more like an evening dress than a wedding dress. However I work a lilac prom dress for my wedding, so I choose what I liked. I expect my MIL didn't think I should wear lilac, but there you go, I liked it!0

My wedding dress was black, and although some guests said it was unexpected, they also said it was beautiful!! :-)
Honestly, if I wanted to wear a rainbow colored tutu I would have though!! Your wedding day is YOUR day!! If you are happy, the guests should be happy for you!!!! Best of luck to you!! :-)0 -
I'd say it shouldn't matter but maybe see if you can hint and see what your OH thinks...? I'd say he'd be the most surprised if he had no idea and obviously had had no time to get used to it (like your Mum would for example)Officially Mrs B as of March 2013
TTC since Apr 2015, baby B born March 20170 -
As everyone else has said - it's your day wear exactly what you want! But what I'd think is "this is the one chance in my life I get to wear the long white dress" there's plenty of occasions to wear black.

That's a strange thing to say, why would you wonder why? Surely individuality is the reason why?
OP do whatever the heck you want to, you only get one wedding (in theory).
Would your choice upset family? Not that I am advocating bowing to tradition simply to appease others, just that it's good to be aware of any potential bad vibes before they get a chance to perhaps put a slight damper on your day. Forewarned means you get a chance to toughen your emotional armour (or strike the moaners off the wedding invite list.)
