I don't know much about this technology, but this seemed a good buy compared to PC World. Any feedback on this would be appreciated as I am considering it but don't know enough about it

    PPI Party Pooper
Almost identical and a similar price (when adding in super saver delivery).

Only reason for adding this is the reviews - thought they may help.

Just because it has a more well known name doesn't garantee the Toshiba one is any better

See the supermarket own brand hunt on this forum for proof

I'd be keen to know how well this works as I was considering one a few months ago but never did get round to buying.

Does anyone know whether you would need to actually be online in order to use it - i.e. if you're watching a film, say, would you have to be online the whole time in order to 'receive' the film?

I did a quick search on ebay and there were some there, I think, for around £10 but not sure what make or whether if from a reliable source.

    Many thanks.

    Regards,

I think you have your wires crossed.
In order to watch tv on your pc you need to connect an aerial to the usb device and effectively it displays the received image on your computer screen - like the tv. It works best with an external aerial. No internet connection is involved.

I use a Hauppage HVR900. This is a good usb stick because it has both a digital freeview receiver but can also receive analogue signals. This means you can use it to capture video from sky, a dvd player or video.

If buying one of these cheap sticks make sure you can get a good digital reception on your aerial or it will be pretty useless.
Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere......

    heres the link - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=439539

i do know that you do not need to be online to watch tv [as its recieved via ariel]

the techie board are very helpful & knowledgeable, so might be worth posting a question in there

Alot of these usb stick struggle to work under Vista. The MSI mega 580 being one. I have the 580 and it works great under XP but not at all under vista. Its really let down by the software. I haven't been able to reorder the channels yet!!

most of these perform really badly with the provided mini aerial, if at all. To pick up channels and get a clear picture you need to use it with an external aerial, i have one which i use with my laptop and is connected to outside aerial and the picture is great, with all channels getting picked up.
