Even if you consider blown capacitors against 'inherent fault' you can see that the issue is not clear cut.
When I consider a blown capacitor (in this context), I can see that the component was not of suitable quality and thus failed earlier than it should've done.

Now whether it wasn't of suitable quality because someone made a mistake in specifying the wrong component, or someone fitted the wrong component, or the capacitor was not as durable as it should've been, it does not matter.

In those cases, and probably others that you can think of, the fault is inherent.

Not always. As I said, it is not clear cut

    No clear-cut answer to this.
    • No if they blew because of a wholly exceptional mains overvoltage
For example a broken neutral on a 3 phase system (from which most domestic supplies are derived). It is rare, but certainly not an inherent fault.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

Please give us a call on 0844 800 9090 so that we can make the necessary arrangements for the collection.
Once the Consumer Rights Directive comes into force in 2014, that telephone number will need to begin 01, 02 03 or 080. Companies will no longer be able to get away with asking callers to ring a premium rate revenue share number, one where they get a cut from the call revenue.
Businesses using 084, 087 or 09 numbers will soon need to display details of the inbuilt Service Charge under Ofcom's "unbundled tariffs" plans.

Businesses using 084, 087 or 09 numbers for customer service, complaints, renewals, etc, will need to swap to an 01, 02, 03 or 080 number before the Consumer Rights Directive comes into effect June 2014.

Well done DaveAA, you've brought a thread back from the grave, with useless information.

Those "Directive" are open to implementation by respective governments so things may be changed or ignored. Not only does this not help the current OP, it won't help for at least 14 months from which time I'm sure there will be more information applied with accurate information on this site.

However yes, if the OP would please wait another 14 months till Dixons implement whatever law the government wants to draft in, then thanks DaveAA, otherwise I might suggest that you stop using the MSE search for 0844 numbers and pulling up months old threads.

    Thanks,

This thread is useful in some ways. It's shows the absolute worst way to word an email to a retailer should your TV develop a fault!

Surprised no ones mention that a TV that cost £599 3 yrs ago is probably about £400 or less now.
