Number29 - Ah yes, it comes with the brightness set to 'auto' which makes the phone very aggressive at saving power, and dimming the screen too much. It's usually well below 50% brightness. Just set the brightness yourself, the screen's excellent and if anyone says it's too dim they need their eyes tested!0

It's not too dim, it's washed out, I.e., the contrast is low. The black background of the settings menu is actually a light grey!0 -

Sorry to confuse you.
My reference to Nexus 5, was for gino's benefit, because whatever he currently has, or is considering, always has a huge list of pros/cons, hence my (too) subtle suggestion that perhaps he waits for the next model.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Gino why the nexus 4 ?
What about the new Xperia/HTC One ?
Or have you considered others and whittled it down to the N4 ?0 -

Lol, is that in ref to why choose the N4 or the alternatives.
I was expecting that kind of reply. Just thought I would put it into the mix.
It might mean more threads are started but still worth a read.0 -
Number29 - no - I just went into settings there. There's actually a gradient effect going on in this, and presumably other, menus in Jellybean. The bottom of the screen is dark grey, the top is pure black. You should find this the same on any 4.2 and maybe 4.1 and 4.0 device. The screen is FAR better than you think if that's what you thought the black levels were!0

It's not just the menu background, it's the icons and photos etc. The contrast pales in comparison to the iPhone 5 and SGS3 for instance.0 -
