Another PC world/Rent Smart thread!

So here is the deal, I'm pretty sure I'm stuck with PC Worlds Infinity contract(Rent Smart)!. Didn't really fight my side when I took it on after realising how awful it was!.

Anyways, the computer I rented is a macbook pro 17" and 2 months ago it started to randomly overheat... But I figured as I'm on the infinity deal which includes PC worlds "whatever happens" policy I would be able to take it to the store and they would get it sorted... I was so wrong!.

I spent over one hour in the store as they could not find my details on the system to start with... I had all my papers with me as well, its just pathetic!!. So we finally got down to the handing over of the macbook which was put into a box with a bunch of labels stuck to it and was told it could take up to 28 Days for it to be repaired, wow so the extra £1400 i'm paying on top of the laptops retail price which I do not own does not even include the premium service!! shocking...

one week later I got a letter asking me to call the store as there was a problem with the repair... ok, so I gave them a call and after waiting for 15 minutes was told that they wanted me to visit the store to go through some issues... Turns out the Macbook was still in store and was still faulty.

They apparently have a problem with apple and repairs, turns out that PC world does not perform repairs on Apple equipment and is sent to Apple instead, but here's the catch... I was told that they could not ship it as Apple refuse to allow it due to shipping damaged caused by PC worlds choice of courier, LOL, no surprise there... anyway I was told I would have to book an appointment with apple and take the laptop to the store!!!!! Wait, what, the laptops is owned by them why the hell should I have to get it repaired!!!, I have read both T&C's and nothing states that I would have to repair the laptop myself, Maintain yes, but not repair!.

I'm no expert hence why I'm posting here but if I'm right they have broken there contract right?, any advice would be great.

Thanks.

Sounds to me like they've broken the contract by not repairing the laptop. Are you after cancelling the contract? Have you asked?

    Thank's for the reply Diesel,

Being able to cancel would be great, but even some sort of compensation or even a new replacement would be a start, But considering all the C**p I get from PC world I'd rather just eliminate any link I have with them.

If possible I would cancel the contract and go straight to Apple for my purchase.

Ask them to cancel the contract on the basis they have broken it. Tell them you aren't happy with the service, and see what they say. You may find they're quite willing the end the contract. Tell them under the supply of goods and services act 1979 you feel you are entitled to cancel this contract. It sounds like they're running a very shambolic hire scheme.

    Ahhh

Heres the kicker though, you have no contract with PcWorld (really). You have a contract with Rentsmart/Infinity (which is provided by a 3rd party).

    Gets complicated real quick.

I will visit the store on monday as they should be quiet and would think the manager isn't to busy to deal with my problem.

So many people have been tricked into this contract as the sales person makes it sound like the perfect deal... It simply comes down to properly reading the T&C's to be sure its for you... Me on the other hand was in there so long (Two hours) because they where having problems with the computer system, when signing up for it I quickly went over the T&C's and signed. The problem is, they twist the wording so much you need a while to fully grasp what the deal is, why can't they make it plain and simple... oh yeh that's right... they do it that way so you simply sign.

I really believe that this scheme needs to be remove as it really is a shamble.

That's just it, I had some issues to start with when I first signed and neither company was willing to help... I phoned Rent smart, "oh well you need to visit pc world for that problem", make the trip to pc world "ahh well you need to give rent smart a call" !!!! sdfjibsdfb WHAT!, in the end I ended up ringing rent smart using my mobile phone and as soon as she said I needed to visit pc world I immediately interrupted her and said that I was in the store and they are telling my different!, another 1 hour 30 minutes later and I got the problem sorted.

They have no idea what there doing i swear, I'm really peed off at this point its so pathetic!.

The £1400 you spent on the policy could have been used to buy a decent laptop at £500 and put the rest in a savings account/ISA.

Tell me about it, thing is not long after, my nan got wind of the issues I was having and offered me £2500 to go buy one instead and cancel the agreement.

I figured that the £1400 would include better repair services but nope. I've pretty much been conned, oh well lesson learnt I suppose!

    Hi GBennett,

Please accept an apology for the behaviour of the staff from an ex-PCW-salesperson who was also pressured into selling this package to customers.

More importantly, under the terms of your agreement if they can't repair your laptop promptly you are entitled to a brand new replacement - so don't let them get away without giving you one! Check your paperwork carefully. You should have a couple of pages about the Whatever Happens cover that is included with the Infinity package. It IS the premium cover that is included (apparently the person dealing with you either didn't know that or didn't want to tell you) and I know that where PCs are concerned they must fix or replace your laptop within ten days. I never dealt with an Apple Infinity but there is a different repair procedure with Macs because PCW/Currys don't have access to Apple parts and engineers, so just in case it's different, please check the paperwork and see what it says about the repair time.

Once you know the exact terms and time limit, you can take the paperwork to the store and tell them they have broken the terms of the agreement and as they have exceeded the ten days allowed for repair you expect them to either replace the laptop or cancel the contract. You are fully within your rights to one or the other and you have it in black and white so don't let them tell you otherwise. If they tell you to call Rentsmart do it in the store as you did the last time, that was the right thing to do.

Be polite but firm. They will probably replace it for you if you are threatening to call Rentsmart and demand cancellation for breach of contract - as you've already noticed, they are pretty desperate to get and keep Infinity customers. At least with a new Macbook you will have got what you are paying for. Good luck with it.
