I was going to say - get them to rebook it as accidental damage (say you dropped it or something, and although everything seems to be OK, it's overheating). That way it'll automatically book to Newark (assuming that they book it in correctly).Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

When my MacBook was booked in, it automatically booked with Newark, without going under accidental damage (under Whateverhappens Club), although I appreciate this might of recently changed to defaulting to Apple for in-warranty repairs.I was going to say - get them to rebook it as accidental damage (say you dropped it or something, and although everything seems to be OK, it's overheating). Right, to clear a few things up.
Right now, you cannot purchase Whatever Happens on a Apple iPad or Mac instore or online, only Applecare (except for infinity which WEH can be taken out).
There is a Apple department in Newark which repairs Macs/iMacs that are outside of the first year and under WEH.
If a Mac is under the first year and its not accidental damage it has to go to Apple, if it's under Applecare it goes to Apple.
Reason for this, is Apple don't supply parts to Newark so the parts are sourced directly from the component manufactures and I assume, that in the next few years that the Apple department in Newark will be wound up (as all repair routes go to Apple, except legacy Whatever Happens that is no longer being sold).
It's probably a price/reward thing, Selling WEH on a Mac costs more to repair from their own pocket (and hassle) then letting Apple Repair.
It also doesn't have to be Apple, just a AASP https://locate.apple.com/uk/en/ if it's under 1st year or under Applecare a AASP will repair it under Apples T&C0
