Pay Day Loans

Evening, Sorry it's late and I know, I know pay day loans should, never, never, ever, ever be considered and I know I might get shouted down tonight but I'm desperate, very desperate at the moment, car tax, MOT all due to be paid over the weekend and I need to know which one of the horrid pay day loan people are the best of the worst.

Please I'm asking for help for once and not to be told off. I wouldn't ask if I wasn't desperate.

Thank you and plese don't shout I'm upset enough. Carol

There's no-one else who I can ask for money or I would have already done so.

I guess the first thing to consider is how much you're looking to borrow, and over what period? Do you have a definite income that can clear the balance in full? Bearing in mind the ridiculous interest charges, if you pay it back in full will it leave you short for the following month and so on? This is where they get you stuck in a vicious cycle and its very hard to get out of it.

Hi Carol , I am no money expert but I have learnt the hard way , could you not take your car off the road for a month and use friends lifts or public transport ? I realise this is expensive but probably a drop in the ocean compared to PDL interest rates .

In no position to shout you down nor am I going to be an advocate for getting credit, I might even get shouted down myself but here goes

Have you thought about trying to cancel some less non essential direct debits for this month and catch up next month (downside is obviously double payment the next but better the devil of payday loans anytime)

Any DVD's/jewellery - High Street pawn shop (safer then online lenders)

If money is this tight on regular basis have you seeked professional help? never put it off - I ended up with a form of bankrupcy a whole year after taking my last PDL out - so they can have long lasting rippling effects as can also push up other forms of credit held esp if you cannot afford the loan in the first place, it's the interest that is a killer add to that transfer fee charges in smallprint that some charge, plus as new customer/first time loan it may not be worth it, just my take

Really hope your ok and can steer away from PDL's x

Do not do it. Take the Car off the road for a month until you can pay for the MOT/tax. Use bus/cycle/walk anything other than payday loan.

If you cannot pay for the car in a month, then you cannot afford to repay the payday loan.

They are sharks and scum, all of them. Do not do it.

Thank you and I know I shouldn't but as I have said I am really, really, really desperate at this moment in time, my husband is not working, we need food to eat, we are washing dishes in car screen wash, I am pinching toilet paper from work, as I have said if I had anything else to sell I would do.

I have cancelled every direct debit I can. There is no direct bus route to allow me to get to work, I would have to catch at least 4 buses to get to work and I start at 8, it's 10 miles to get to work so I can't walk 20 miles a day I'd never last and I have had to sell my bike.

If I could think of anything else then I would.

So, so sad, fed up and desperate. It would be sodding so much easier not to be here on this flaming earth then I wouldn't have to worry.

Hi Carol, you sound so down. I'm going to ask some questions for clarity, if that's ok?
How long would the PDL be for, in terms of days?
How much is the interest going to cost you?
Will you def be able to repay on the agreed day?
If you find this leaves you short next month, would you be able to manage with a smaller PDL next month, so that it is reducing?
I know that people scream about them, but I, like you, have no one else to go to if in need. I have used Wonga myself, and had no trouble. All I would say is, if you find that you have to keep using them for a whils, ensure that's it's for les and less each time, like our grandparents used to, pawning the suit on a Sunday and getting it back on Payday lol! If its driving illegally or using a PDL, do that. Can you post an SOA to see if you can reduce your outgoings over the long term?
PS, I am out of debt, and have not used the PDL myself for over a year.

If you are not able to afford washing up liquid then I do worry how you will repay the PDL. If it isn't too late could you get a very small loan for a second hand bike on ebay or gumtree and cycle to work for now?

Are there any local support organisations that might help you? Maybe ask at CAB or the council? Tried a foodbank? Also ask if they can suggest any other sources of help.
