Claiming on a credit card

Hi
My daughter has paid to go on a hen weekend at Butlins but the wedding had been called off. Butlins will not refund the money so would she be able to claim this back from the credit card company?

A similar thread: Claim back for holiday

If it was not Butlins' fault, they have no obligations to refund the money unless their T&C say otherwise. If they don't have any obligations to refund, then you have no grounds for asking the card provider to do this.

Generally, all companies have some cancellation policy. If you cancel well in advance and they refuse to refund the money despite the T&C saying that they have to, this can be a case for claiming money from the card provider.

It's not that I am saying that this is the case.
  • Hi thanks for that. I think the bride is a bit upset with being jilted so close to the wedding and i think going away to her would have been hen weekend will not do anything to help.

You have a feel a little sorry for the banks. This week alone, people have tried to hold them responsible for a runaway groom and a dead grandmother...

Yes zx81, I feel really sorry for them.

Their annual bonuses have been cut from multi-millions to just a few millions, that's gotta be tough, given their impoverished salaries. I predict they'll have their charity collection boxes out by the weekend.

(I have never received one penny in bonus in all my (long) working life - but it doesn't mean that I worked any less hard for my salary all those years)
The bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.

What a shame about the wedding being cancelled but as mentioned before it's not Butlins fault. Is there anyway others could go in their place....called it "I hate men weekend or "I'm lucky to be single" bash. Butlins are great fun for crowds...seems a shame to lose the money.

Personally if the bride was my friend I'd suggest we all go away and have a good time.
If she really can't face it then perhaps she shouldn't expect all her friends to lose out?

The alternative is you all sell your places on ebay.

It's not the holiday companies fault if you no longer want to go.
Certain things you can get insurance for (like sickness, death etc.) but I don't think being jilted is one of them.

If I was the bride I wouldn't expect my friends to take a loss so I'd tell them to go, with or without me.

She should be going and celeberating that she has had a close escape :D

If only my Mrs had said NO :rotfl:

    If only I got a multi-million bonus....

Even getting the national average wage would be nice.

As to my bonus its based on my personal preformance. Which is made up of many parts. So there is more chance of NOT GETTING ONE, then getting one..... Not what some jumped up investment banker has managed to do.

Funny how people have no understanding just what your average bank work gets and just think ALL bank staff are on massive wages and bonuses....
