BT Usage Monitor. Totally inaccurate.

Like Closed suggests ... check the Upload/Download usage stats in your router. Then 1 month later check them again (assuming the router hasn't disconnected or rebooted) and the difference should be the actual usage).0

"Closed" says I should just swallow it..
Closed didn't say any such thing. You're on a crippled limited package, upgrade it then you don't have to worry and can enjoy the wide variety of content on offer instead of stressing over exactly how much BT thinks you are downloading
You can blag free evening and weekend calls if you pay for line rental a year in advance.!!

Cornucopia;59751967]It's worth pointing out that the BT unlimited service is actually subject to a 100GB fair usage allowance.
BT unlimited has not had the 100GB usage limit for years. It was upped to 300Gb and then scrapped completely.0 -
If you are paying line rental 12 months in advance, you call 150/0800 800 150 and ask for free evening weekend calls at no extra cost
, also available as part of some of the broadband deals

Fair enough, but my point here is that it should be for the customer to decide, based on their data needs, which plan they should choose. Instead, decisions are being made on the basis of an uncertainty about the accuracy of the BT usage monitor and the fear that customers will be wrongly alleged to be exceeding their data allowances.
This applies not only to those on 10 GB plans but also those on 40 GB plans, as posters on the other thread report.
I was with Orange for over ten years with unlimited and will almost certainly go back to unlimited again fairly soon.
But so long as customers are contracted to limited data plans then they should expect to be correctly charged for what they use, just as they are for gas, electric and petrol and etc.
BTW I already paid a year in advance.0 -
With any provider, you have to be careful to read all the small print, especially with deals designed to get you through the door based on a headline price.
10GB is not much, may be enough for some, but very limiting especially where video is concerned. A lot of bandwidth goes unnoticed under the hood, windows updates etc, so the only real way of monitoring it is to look at the router stats (which is also often hidden under the hood)
Is your monitoring software measuring bytes?
They are in a better position to monitor accurate use than most people, and are supposed to email users before they exceed the limit, and have the usage monitor on the website, so there should be no £145 surprises.!!

"Deals designed to get you through the door based on a headline price." I think that just about sums it all up.
I pay BT just over a tenner a month. Buttons compared to what I paid Orange. I dont blame them for wanting more. I just wish they would present me with an offer acceptable to both of us instead of trying to spook me into an upgrade with fears of exorbitant excess charges.0 -

That limit was upped to 300Gb and then subsequently removed quite some time ago.0 -
