Nationwide FlexDirect - 5% interest, free overdraft

  • Apparently Nationwide is having to jump hurdles with Basel 3 which means they are classed over extended.
In turn that means they are reducing overdrafts, which is a shame with flex as it was supposed to be fee free for a year.

As of the end of this month allegedly

Banks (and building societies) are always checking your credit history and reviewing overdraft facilities, that's nothing new.

Unless you mean it's part of a greater project ... which seems very unlikely. Their overdraft balances are a tiny proportion of their balance sheet ... reducing a few balances isn't going to make the slightest bit of difference to meeting the PRA's requirements.

Do you have a source for this? I personally don't believe it to be true.

Just for information and I hope this helps a few.

I have a Chip & Signature FlexDirect Card vice Chip & PIN.

Obviously the only way I can obtain cash is over-the-counter in Branch or cash back at a retailers.

I did check with Nationwide that this was possible before applying for the account.

In other words, Chip & Signature Cards are available with this account and you can use it in Branch.

Has anyone seen that they're offering £50 to both the referrer and referred if you get a friend to switch to Nationwide? Looks pretty good and the T&Cs don't say any DDs or SOs need switching. The referred person needs to keep the account for 3 months.

Yes, but you are not allowed to punt for referrals outside the Referrer's Board.

I can't believe that in this day and age I can't complete an on-line application without having to input a landline phone number, which I do not have (and how many million others?). And you can't even put a mobile number in the box.
