What's wrong with Lloyds TSB's method (presumably Halifax is the same)? I've never had a problem with it. You have three pieces of secret information and get re-asked for one of them (password) whenever you send a payment. New payees require you to receive an automated call that lasts 30 seconds.

Most people take their mobiles everywhere. Hardly anyone takes their bank card reader everywhere.
I think Gromitt was talking specifically about registering/updating phone numbers.

IIRC*, if you do either you're locked out of making payments to new payees for 7 days with Halifax. Maybe LTSB is the same?

    * Halifax 'lost' my phone numbers (all 3 of them!) a couple of months ago, so I couldn't set up new payees for a week or so. Wasn't a problem for me...I just sent the cash to another of my accounts and made the payment from there...but could have been a major problem for some people?

Never changed my numbers either, but when I opened a new current account, they deleted all my numbers and then I had to wait 7 days to setup them up again.

At least with Nationwides solution they can't all of a sudden take it away from you. Worst thing that can happen is a flat battery which I think you can replace within 24 hours as its a standard battery.

Unlikely, I have a Barclays PIN Sentry at home, a Nationwide calculator at work and a Co-op calculator in the car, so normally close to at least one of them and they all work in the same way :)

Was on the phone to them for 40 mins to confirm the interest rate on my 3 flex direct account. Stated that there was a cut off date of the 26th of march to be able to have multiple flex direct accounts at 5%. Luckily my applications were in the 1st of march. Though on 2 of them they changed the application date to the 28th of march! Sneaky! And the changed the online application tracker to say the two on the 1st of march were flexaccounts, not flexdirect (untrue!) anyways, really helpful staff , and they confirmed that they were all actually opened on the 1st of march, put a note on my account stating it. And are no investigating it to make sure i get the right rate on my account.

In conclusion, they may take a little while, they may mess up, but nationwide seems to atleast stick by what the originally offer, even if its a mistake. I give them credit for this! Now lets see what happens :-)

How about asking for the overdraft offer on each flex direct
  • Hi,

Just wondering how long it took to receive the pin code for this account?

I have opened the Nationwide Flexdirect end March and although I did receive the debit card (after about 3 working days) I am still waiting for the pin code, let alone my online details and card reader. Understood from earlier posts that there seems to be some delay with the card readers but am just a bit worried whether my pin code letter got missing in transit.

It's now about 9 working days since I've opened the account...

    Hi,
It's now about 9 working days since I've opened the account...

I received my card after 7 working days. I'm now 4 further working days on from that and haven't received my PIN or anything else. I'm not overly worried. I get the impression they're a little overwhelmed with applications for the new accounts.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D
