The £500 a week is a cap on housing benefit only,

You need to look again. :)

    From DWP
The Benefit Cap will see the amount people can receive in benefits capped at the average earned income after tax and National Insurance for working households of £500 a week for couple and single parent households – the equivalent of £26,000 per year.
It will apply to the combined income from JSA, Income Support, Employment and Support Allowance, Child Benefit, Child Tax Credits and other benefits.

Will the cap also apply to people on DLA? I think I read somewhere that it wouldn't but I'm not sure.

So, if a couple have a child and one of the parents is on DLA, would the cap apply or not? I get a bit confused.:o

    Thank you.

having 9 children is nothing; my ex neighbour;s daughter has 12 children the eldest being over 21!!

she has NEVER worked to support 12 children, yet they shouted at me to get a bloody job!!

at least i dont keep having children to claim benefits!!

    Thank you both.

It doesn't really matter to me if the cap applies anyway (and we get less than £500 anyway) as we would learn to budget but it was just a wondering. :)
