I've also given Easter eggs instead of party bags, at least a couple of weeks before Easter, and both the kids and their parents were delighted.

I'd go with it. If a particular child has a problem (e.g. an allergy or their parent has decided that they're giving it up for lent) then tough cheese

Why am I not surprised that you would say that.

inmyjoesmum, I think you can get haribo type non-chocolate easter things - that might work. My sister in law does make dairy/nut/everything free chocolate style eggs but I get that that might be a step too far.

Has anybody done this and how did it go down? As a parent ould it bother you if your child got an easter egg and a slice of cake instead of a party bag?

    Thanks :)

How do you mean would it bother me?

As in you were giving chocolate out instead of a thanks you gift? I think at a party you tend to be prepared for all the chocolate/cake/sweets your child will have so giving an egg wouldn't bother me at all.

I would see the egg as a thank you for coming gift, just an edible one i could fight my DD for.....
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Just whatever you do don't put in one of those plastic recorders or whistles - for some unknown reason they ALWAYS go missing in our house .. I've no idea where they've gone ;-)

Ooh thanks you've given me an idea, my son is having his party that weekend too. One child has a dairy allergy what would be best to get for him instead do you think?

As someone else has suggested, all of the supermarkets do dairy-free eggs, although they are a bit more expensive, and fairly naff in terms of decoration. Alternatively, a bag of Haribos will go down well - both child and parents will be over the moon that you've thought about it :T

What about homemade chocolate slabs, a la Hotel Chocolat and so on.

I imagine young kids probably wouldn't be too fussed about getting top quality chocolate, so supermarket own brand would probably do, and you could do smaller/thinner bars.
