crikey, its 9.30 and still 27 outside, bedroom is 23. That means a very sleepless night

I am getting out and about by 5.30 in the morning. Allotment, vacuuming all that sort of stuff. Washed my stone floors. Ventilated all windows early on and then closed them and drew the insulating curtains on the south side. I have an evaporating cooler, had it many years and it does work but only needed it on for an hour this afternoon. This dreadful heat is going to build up rapidly now and the next few days will be hellish for many people

I have a good fan on a pedestal stand and used it on a timer while in bed, will do the same each night

Feeling sorry for the sheep behind me, even though they are sheared, I mean shorn I think

i keep my duvet off my bed whilst actually getting to sleep in this heat but the only catch is waking up too cold later on as the body cools down once it is asleep apparently.

Oh man, last night was the worst so far. My house's bricks seem to be acting like a charged storage heater, and still felt warm to the touch at 5am. I got up and opened the back door, but it has not helped much.

I don't know how we coped with 36 degrees when I was younger.

We slept last night with just an empty duvet cover which was much better. DH had left curtains open to let a (non existent) breeze in so I woke up at 5 with the sunrise! However I did discover that doing the ironing at that time is bearable, yesterday I did some hoovering in the afternoon and it was so hot that I twice had to jump in the shower.

After no sleep the night before, a cool breeze appeared last night and I slept for nine solid hours which straight away makes me feel so much better able to cope :)

Still woke up with hair soaking wet and sticking out all over the place though :(

Definitely cooler this morning thankfully. Going to whizz around getting the bathroom and bedrooms cleaned , downstairs can wait a while longer.

I was so tired from not sleeping the night before that I think I crashed out. We had the fan in our room and we actually left the windows open too. We don't usually do that as our bedroom overlooks the street and the street noise usually makes our dogs bark.

Hopefully the noise of the fan prevented the dogs from hearing anything outside. If they were barking I didn't hear them as I was so dead asleep, lol.:o:p

Take damp clothes out of the washing machine and wear them when very hot, it feel lovely for about 30 minutes then it dries very quickly in this heat! It works particularly well with night clothes!

I think a lot of people are suffering healthwise

Personally I finish my chores by 9 and do quiet slow things indoors all day. I am so lucky in that my house has an overhang over downstairs and upstairs on the south side. It was 34 in the shade outside today, sun trap outside and 24 in the house, however upstairs has built up and is almost 26 now. In our previous house, dh pushed the loft door to one side and that lets the hot air go up into the roof space, remember that hot air rises, so it needs to escape. I don`t have a loft in this house

Tonight I will have the fan on low all night, in the bedroom. Its definitely harder to adapt to this heat now I am older

I've decided to risk having the small window open in my bedroom tonight even though I live in a bungalow.

I tend to wake up very early because of the heat at the moment and if I do in the morning I will get up and open all of the smaller windows.

Not as hot as many places here (far from it)but my feet are roasting - a combination of the warm weather, mobility problems, being more active today than I have in a while and being a "women of a certain" age. A cold hose down earlier hasn't really helped so I'm now wearing a pair of wet socks - oh what a difference:). The sock's will be getting re-wetted before bed and my "hot water bottle" is in the fridge:cool:
