Definitely use the cooler mornings or late evenings to do any chores needing done

I would have made a blind man puke after cleaning the bathroom and doing the ironing in just a pair of knickers.

But getting what needs doing or cooking early ( before 10am ) helps me get through the days whilst having hot sweats

I've decided to risk having the small window open in my bedroom tonight even though I live in a bungalow.

I tend to wake up very early because of the heat at the moment and if I do in the morning I will get up and open all of the smaller windows.

Holly I understand your predicament re leaving windows open and feeling vulnerable, but I have been stifling hot in an airless room and not slept much at all, so recently I have left the window open and it makes such a difference. A risk I decided was worth taking: I just hope I don't rue the day.

ETA it's sad that it's even an issue, but there you go!

More down to the fact that you were ironing full stop ..let alone doing it during a heatwave with your knickers still on :p

Thankfully at my age knickers are cotton and are there to do the job and not excite :rotfl:

As for ironing, I'm old school, I can't bear to see creases in clothes or bedding :(

    Still, I got a free sauna :D

    Open those Windows fgs

If anyone is feeling vulnerable, get down to B&Q and get locks that allow a window to opened slightly whilst stopping anyone getting in. Else leave a lamp or tv on in the room. Tv is usually better as it keeps changing lighting. Just turn the sound off

I do the leaving the TV on as opposed to lights. It may use more electric but it gives me some (probably deluded) peace of mind :o

I did this yesterday, with the exception of the ironing. I had all the curtains closed to keep the heat out so no one was going to see me. I think if anyone had of broken in they would have taken one look and run :D

A small tip for those living in bungalows or ground floor flats who feel vulnerable leaving windows open at night.

Take two or three empty lightweight drinks cans, string them together on a piece of string long enough so that the cans dangle below the window ledge. Make a loop at the top end of the string and fit it tightly round the open window handle. (It's easier if you leave the Ring Pull tab on the cans to loop the string through).

The slightest attempt by anybody to move the window will set the cans jangling as a burglar alarm and the string won't be easily spotted in the dark.

If you don't have empty tin cans, tying a few spoons or other "jangly" items will substitute.

This seems a very rough and ready solution but empty aluminium cans rattle very noisily on the slightest movement and we used this method very effectively on a downstairs flat open window in hot weather. Just be sure the length of string is long enough to ensure the cans are not visible dangling below the window ledge shelf.

I did the vacuuming as soon as I woke up so it was cooler. I went out for a walk while it was morning as I thought I didn't want to wait until the sun was very strong.

I'm about to dip my feet in the cold water in my foot spa. Bliss!:A
