I do have however a yoghurt maker from Lakeland, that is really no more than a glorified flask, but it's brillant. It is electric. I use 4 tbl spoons of milk powder 1 or 2 tblsps plain yog. 1 1ltr carton of the skimmed milk. Not the fresh but long life one. You don't need to heat this up. I just mix it all up and switch it on. Leave it over night, and then lovely yoghurt is ready in the morning.

Hi, everybody, just wondering if when doing the home made recipe you have to use UHT/long life milk or can you use ordinary pasteurised? might sound like a daft question but UHT milk doesn't agree with me.
    Thanks
  • I have had an easiyo maker for years, and it is in constant use. The Simply sachets can be used with the easiyo, as they work on exactly the same principle. Simply is much creamier IMO. (and cheaper)
I have yet to try the diy recipe, but have tried keffir - OMG it's bitter. I can't drink milk, it makes me violently sick. I can take yoghurt in a fruit smoothie, which is what I have for breakfast each day, but the keffir made me ill in the smoothie.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the restraints

    Hi
I too would love to know if you have to use UHT as I must admit that I don't normally like the taste of UHT milk in itself. If you do have to use UHT, does the yoghurt have the strange aftertaste normally associated with UHT milk?
    Many thanks :)
  • I think if you use fresh milk you have to heat it to a certain temperature first.

I don't even add milk powder to mine in the thelakeland electric maker. Just a couple of tablespoons of yog from the last batch and a carton of UHT milk
  • I seem to spend a lot of time telling people how much I love Simply Yoghurt. It is dead easy to make (just add water), very thick and tasty, as well as being full of lots of good stuff. My absolute fave is the Greek Yoghurt Style, closely followed by Lemon, although apart from the healthier 'Lite' ones I am happy to eat any of them. The only real differences between this one and Easiyo are that the pot you make it in is shorter and fatter making it easier to get the yoghurt out and it's cheaper.
  • Thanks Queenie for the DIY recipe. I always thought yogurt making was expensive especially if you have to buy all the pre prepared mixes. I have now got an Easiyo maker and made by first lot of yogurt today following your recipe, I wasn't expecting great results as it was my first attempt however, it has turned out fine and we had some tonight with fruit after our dinner with plenty left to keep us going for the rest of the week.

    Thanks again
