I am curious. A new yoghurt maker that makes yoghurt in the fridge. I`m going to watch freeview 22 at 9 pm and see if this really is a money-saving innovation or just another gimmick. I just cannot see how yoghurt can grow in the fridge

Sounds interesting - do report back and let us know!0

Which channel is it, is it ideal world? (I have NTL's free pack so all my channel numbers are different to freeview now, grr)0

yes ideal world. I must say that I have had some excellent buys from them during the last few months. So I wait with bated breath0

I think they may have lost the contract wit easy-yo, so this is the rival. From what I have seen last night, prices appear to be similar.0

Morning all. I am looking to buy a yoghurt maker, and was more or less set on Easiyo, but Ideal World do a brand called Simply Yoghurt, and their starter pack looks better value, I wondered if anyone had tried this brand and if they knew if I could also use the Easiyo mixes with the Simply Yoghurt maker, as I don't want to have to be mail ordering everytime I want some. I have a couple of Julian Graves close to me that sell Easiyo but they don't have any of the makers in at the mo, just the mixes. Or shall I just go to Sainsburys and buy yoghurt ready made!!!
Thanks for your help.Friday April 9th 2010 the day I become Mrs Jones!

Thanks Queenie that is really good. It sounds like it might be a good buy based on what they are saying on that forum. Think I might throw caution to the wind and order one, instead of dithering any longer.

I have an easio, but don't use it much as I find the yoghurt mixes are expensive. I do have however a yoghurt maker from Lakeland, that is really no more than a glorified flask, but it's brillant. It is electric. I use 4 tbl spoons of milk powder 1 or 2 tblsps plain yog. 1 1ltr carton of the skimmed milk. Not the fresh but long life one. You don't need to heat this up. I just mix it all up and switch it on. Leave it over night, and then lovely yoghurt is ready in the morning. With the left over plian yog, which I used as a starter, I add some sugar to it, a bit of jam, then make the children ice lollies :-) If you sticj to the basic/value brands for the yoghurt, milk powder and skimmed milk, it's very economical. An aprox price would be depending on the yog. I'll use the price for a low fat one here (I usually use a fat free one, which is a little dearer than the low fat one) would be about 35-40p for the yog, as you're only using a couple of table spoons at the most, the price is more or less negligable really. 37p for the milk. A box of skimmed milk powder is about £1.55. for yog and milk, An approximate price of the skimmed milk powder at being about 20p for 4tblsps??? (if that even) then there's the fuel I would say you're getting a litre of plain yoghurt for around £1.00????? Maybe less?? I'm not that good at approximating prices.0

I have the EasYio and the recipe you use in your electric maker is the same I use in the EasYio because you are right, the packets are expensive! In fact, in the EasYio thread in OS, you'll find most people use a recipe similar to yoursThe EasYio costs one kettle of water in energy terms, so I don't know how that compares to your electric one?

Um I don't know. Do you make the yog up in the large pots they give with the easyio?? Using it in exactly the same way, but using your own recipe instead?? I suppose, logically the easyio version of my recipe would be even more cheaper???!!! I take it you still don't need to heat the milk first. You just mix it all up and stick it in the easyio to yog. ???? I've never thought of doing it with the easyio. I always assumed that you could only use the mixes. I had the Lakeland yog maker first. I bought the easyio on a whim a couple of years back lol.0
