Simply Yoghurt - anyone tried this brand?

Yes, I mix the starter yogurt (2 Tbsp) with the 1ltr milk and 2 Tbsp of milk powder, put it in the 1ltr pot that came with the EasYio; pop that into the E/O 'flask', top up with boiling water and then leave overnight.
When I first bought the E/O I was discouraged by the idea of only ever using *their* packets because no way would it work out economical. It was a joy to find that the homemade recipe worked
Another thing I do is to use the remaining couple of Tbsp of yogurt in the E/O to make the next batch, which cuts the cost of buying a starter yogurt each time. You can also freeze some of the yogurt in ice cube trays and use a couple of cubes as the starter.
Have a read through the long but informative E/O thread in OS - it's a good read and you'll see many of us do as above~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have an easio, but don't use it much as I find the yoghurt mixes are expensive. I do have however a yoghurt maker from Lakeland, that is really no more than a glorified flask, but it's brillant. It is electric.
I have that one and use it constantly!:DThe "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

Hello all. I bought the Simply Yoghurt maker and a box of Raspberry Sachets. The yoghurt is incredibly creamy and quite delicious -- but yes, it's not inexpensive. And it's quite sweet, which is fab for the kids but not great for me. I want to go sugar-free. I tried using an EasiYo Berries flavour pack with it, and that came out fine. The EasiYo is unsweetened, so a little sour, but still nice. And you can add a sweetener if you want, so you control amounts.
To save money, though, I will definitely try this homemade recipe. Thank you for posting that. One question: Will the homemade contain all the 'millions and millions' of healthy active bacteria that the Ideal TV presenters promise? (I must say, I've been eating the yogurt for a couple weeks, and I haven't noticed any miraculous change in my digestive health.)
Thanks for all your posts!0 -
Thank you Lilyc, it is useful to know that the Easiyo mix worked with it, as I was concerned about just being able to order from one place. However I am going to try the homemade recipe too. I am trying to lower cholesterol a bit, so want to use low fat stuff for me, but the kids love all the sweet yoghurts.
Thanks again.Friday April 9th 2010 the day I become Mrs Jones!

A couple of years ago after months of deliberating I bought an Easyyo maker and some sachets as I love yoghurt and we use an awful lot of it. I found all the finished easyyo to be really bitter, even when I only left it for the minimum time, and the fruit squirty stuff was really artificial tasting. The kids wouldn't touch it so I gave the kit and leftover sachets to my sister. Earlier today I was flicking through the channels and say a product on Ideal World called Simply Yoghurt, which looks to be the same sort of thing as Easyyo but the presenters were saying that if you find Easyyo too bitter then this one is really creamy and mild. It is on offer today with £1.00 p&p so works out about £1.40 per kilo, so cheaper than most supermarket 200g tubs, and I have to say it looked fab. Before I spend anything, has anyone ever tried this and if so, would you recommend it?Jane

Hi Jane
I think this could be down to personal taste.
I have the EasiYo system and use the unsweetened low fat strawberry flavour and the organic bio life natural. I use them with fresh fruit as part of my breakfast. I have not found either of these flavours to be bitter. I like the fact that it is made with milk from free range cows.
I also bought two flavours of the Simply Yogurt from Ideal World for hubby. Neither of us liked them, we both found them artificial tasting whereas we didn't think the EasiYo tasted artificial.
Reading the ingredients on the packets for both makes they say natural flavouring, natural colour so it was disappointing that we found the Simply Yogurt tasted artificial to us.
I wouldn't put too much store by what the presenters say, they are there to sell the stuff and before they stocked Simply Yogurt (which is actually made for Ideal World according to the packet) they sold and sang the praises of EasiYo!
Like I said, I think it's down to personal taste and I'm sure others will come along and say they prefer Simply Yogurt!0 -
I recently got the Easyo system and have to say I am delighted with it! I have tried mostly all the flavours now and love the greek youghurt and custard ones the best. Yes the fruit squirt is a bit funny but it's ok. I find that sometimes I like to have my yoghurt a little sweeter so simply add a teaspoon of suger to the mix when first making it! I have not tired the Simply Yoghurt but am interested in seeing what everyone else has to say about it!
I have fruit and yoghurt for my breakfast too TomsMumMy second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.-Erma Bombeck-~ Member of the MSE Celebdaq Minileague ~0 -

Its great, I just put in 2 teaspoons of live yoghurt mixed with 1 litre UHT and leave for 6-8 hours, perfect yoghurt each time and you can add whatever flavourings you like or just use it as it is. (I pour it into little plastic tubs with lids rather than put the tub in the fridge as its a bit big.)0 -
Hi recovering spendaholic,
There's an older thread on Simply Yoghurt that might help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the replies together.

I recently bought an Easiyo yogurt marker after reading one of the threads on here. I think its great, i havent tried the sachet but use the recipe thats on the thread. 2 tbsp natural live yogurt, 2 tbsps of powdered milk, and top the container up with uht milk, add sugar or sweetener to taste. I serve it with fruit after i chop it into small piece or blend, again add sugar or sweetener to taste, can use tinned or frozen fruit instead of fresh.
My kids love it and to make yogurt drink you could replace uht milk with uht milkshakes and not add powdered milk because that thickens it.0
