i think people are asking you the exact times, so they can help you complete your cheap ticket-booking.

fares will not get ANY cheaper - so book them asasp. there may still be cheap splits to be had, you don't have to get off the train, it just has to stop at that station.

also, how did you do with your hotel booking, not a lot of choice in newton itself - hope you've managed to get a good deal.

I don't think it was impolite of people to ask a bit more detail

    For instance ...

If you're on the 0928 arriving at Kings Cross at 1243, then the best fare from Paddington leaves at 1306, which is very tight indeed, bearing in mind thelawnet's advice about connection times and advance fares.

It might just be possible, or maybe it simply is not, but if so you'd really need to navigate around both stations perfectly, the best escalator and go past everyone, and so on.

But if the arriving train is any more than 2 or 3 minutes late, then catching the Tube at 1250 to arrive Paddington at 1300 is going to be a problem. Maybe a taxi, but even that will be 10 or 12 minutes.

The 1406 and 1506 from Paddington are £37 and £32, so you might instead decide to go for the 1320 from Waterloo to Exeter St Davids for £14 advance.

Even that is a fairly tight change, but I think a bit more feasible. TfL says 13 to 15 minutes, but that's time between underground platforms. I've done it the other way in 22 or 25 from arrival at Waterloo back to surface at Kings Cross. You could risk it, and if the arrival at KGX is 15 or 18 minutes late then go for a taxi to Waterloo in 10 or 12 minutes.

But bear in mind that as thelawnet says, for seperately bought advance tickets the connections aren't underwritten to put you on a later train at the connection if there are delays. It might be as well to accept that you're going to allow an hour or so in London and might have lunch at Paddington if you arrive at KGX on time
