Thank you all for your help, I got cheapish tickets from newcastle to London now I need tickets from London to Newton abbot, any cheap sites? Any tips?
My first and only tip is to use the train company's website.
Always.
None of this ripoffline.com or whatever.
Your tickets from Newcastle to London would have been 10% cheaper on the Eastcoast website (I'm assuming you didn't buy them there).
Unfortunately because the fares from Newcastle to London are London to Devon are not really correlated in any measure, you really needed to research BOTH fares to get a good deal for the overall journey.
That said if you can give details of what you have booked already, we can give you the cheapest options for getting to Devon from London.0 -

I tend to look at National Rail first.
For this trip I'm not sure I'd bother with Megatrain/bus as it has only 3 coaches a day and probably only one might help you
Advance fares to Exeter tend to be cheaper from Waterloo than from Paddington, though via Paddington is faster. But if you book direct to Newton Abbot from London one of the Paddington fares starts at £13 on the day I looked (7th May)
National Rail is a bit conservative for some timing between London termini, and some trips you could even walk faster than they say. The Transport for London site gives a better idea, including specifying Underground lines0 -
Megabus, To Leeds, then To Birmingham, To Exeter, bus to Newton Clotted Cream Abbot.
Bring a Brolly !
All on one ticket £70 for both return, catch the late bus and sleep the journey.Be happy...;)0 -
Kings Cross - Paddington = 20 mins, 40 to be sure of connections
Kings Cross - Waterloo = 25 mins, 45 to be sure of connections0 -
The official connection times are actually Kings Cross - Paddington 45 minutes; Kings Cross - Waterloo 55 minutes.
There is a big issue with booking connections shorter than these, because if you do and your inbound train is delayed, then they have no liability to put you on the next train. If however you have allowed the minimum connection time, then you can just take the next train if you miss your booked train because of a delay.
Because of the very high cost of one-way walk-up tickets, it's very risky to allow less than the official times when connecting to Advance bookings.0 -
