Help!!!! Travelling to Newton Abbot from Newcastle by train.

Hi my name is ben and im from Newcastle. Im looking to see a friend in Newton Abbot and travel by train with my partner. I'm looking to stay from a Monday till a Friday, around May time. I looked on various websites and have been quoted around 300 pound!!!! Is that too much??? Is there anything I can do to get the price down? I think to be paying 200 pound for hotel for 4 nights and paying 300 pound for train is way tooooo much, last year I went to London for under 200 train and hotel. Please help If you can't thank you anyway :)

Should be able to get a decent Advance ticket for a lot less than that. What websites have you tried?
  • National rail, travelline, virgin. A few more but I forgot. I got a plan, newcastle to London on east coast, then London to Newton abbot. Hmm
  • which hotel are you looking at? do you have to stay in newton abbot, or could you stay in torquay for example?

cheese louise that's expensive - isn't it cheaper to fly there and back?
    <checks> that'll be a no then -
I'm looking on tripadvisor at this:
Newcastle upon Tyne, GB (NCL) to Exeter, GB (EXT)

    Mon 6 May – Fri 10 May, 2 travellers

and it's telling me £136 per person for rail and £155 per person to fly...

Split at Bristol to get it down to about £95 pp rtn.

Alternatively, wait a couple of weeks to see what fares come up for Megatrain: Sheffield-London-Exeter (scenic route)

Alternatively: Megabus £35 pp single Newcastle-Exeter
  • Crazy expensive lol I might walk
