 They tried to charge for bumper damage which was already there when the vehicle was collected.I get an invoice for £303 plus a charge of £35, plust VAT, for polishing damage out of the bumper. This was noted when we checked the van out, so I queried it and why the mirror was so much. They immediately knocked off the £35, as that was a mistake.0

            I think I need to reiterate. I damaged the wing mirror, I am happy to pay for the repair. I just want to see proof of cost, as their T & C's state in the event of damage, they will deduct their costs from the deposit. £365 or thereabouts seems way, way too much. They seem unable, or unwilling, to show me this proof and this makes me dubious about just how much they've spent on the repair.0

            If a repair is so minor it would be unreasonable to replace it, the likely cause of action would be to charge an amount based on the depreciation caused. This may not be relevant or the wing mirror as the damage may be obvious - but the amount charged does seem to be quite high. And the time fitting would be minimal if they have their own repair team (it's not uncommon for places like this to have inhouse mechanics). Although it's certainly a valid point by another member if they had to take it off the road.0

            I don't think it matters whether they have their own mechanics or if they have to get the work carried out at an outside repairers.
 Their own staff still have to be paid and if they are working to fix damage caused by a customer then this is time that they can't be doing regular servicing or other normal duties.
 If I take something into PC world to get it repaired, why should I have to pay for the labour involved as they have their own repair "geeks" in store and they will be getting paid irrespective of whether I take my computer into them or not?0

            Yeah, but PC world are up front about your charges. £35 to cover their labour seems pricey, as their T & C's state they will cover costs. So, unless their staff are on sky high wages, then they are skimming a little profit from my accident.0

 Then call around other garages and ask them to quote you for parts & labour. If their figures are around the same as the rental place, pay it. If its a huge difference, send your quotes to the hire place and ask why theirs is so much higher.
 Although you may have to allow for loss of earnings on their part too, depending whether they needed to take it off the road or not.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

 But the cost of depreciation would be the cost of putting it back into the as new condition.
 Anyway, if the glass is broken, it needs to be replaced.0

            Unholy, I'll happily pay the full amount, even if it is more than other garages. I just find it strange that a VAT registered company is unable to produce receipts or invoices for parts. Makes me think they're charging me more than what it cost them, that's all.0

            I own my Motorhome and had to replace the passenger side mirror(my fault!). Some Motorhomes have special extra wide wing mirrors put on by the conversion manufacturers because of the extra width built onto the base vehicle. Also I was unable to replace just the glass as it is connected to a heating element (no fogging up) and also it swivels to adjust the view from inside the Cab. It cost me £250 (with a discount) to buy a whole new unit and took two hours to replace (by a friend for noithing)as the innner door liner had to be removed and the new one connected to all the electrics etc. Therefore the price quoted is near on correct. Garage fees today are at least £50 an hour!0
