Centrica profits rise again

Are we going to have a running commentary on every Ftse 100 company's results?, or just the one's individual posters have a pet peeve about?
Nobody is forced to buy energy or other services from BG (and I bet their profit margin on their boiler and home repair business is far higher than on domestic energy), or buy stock in Centrica.
It's a free market.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
Funny how this received little press coverage.Spanish owner takes £900m dividend from Scottish Power despite pushing through a big increase in bills for British customers

I would think the proposed share buyback by Centrica would raise more ire than the profit figure.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0

You know what really annoys me, it's when people come out with things like "they shouldnt be making profits they should be reinvested into the infrastructure etc". People that say this clearly have no clue how accounting or companies work. Capital expenditure is not expensed it is capitalised and depreciated. If you dont understand what that means then you shouldn't be commenting on things like this.Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0

I think the point is that people are assuming you're indulging your own 'prejudices' (not the word I'd use in this context) as you have historically complained about any increases in energy prices and have complained especially about energy company 'profiteering' many times in the past.
Perhaps your comment:Graham_Devon wrote: »On the back of cold weather and increased tarrif prices, Centrica has stated their profits have risen to 11%.
Leads people to disbelieve your "I specifically made sure my opinion wasn't given" statement, and assume you are taking your usual stance on energy.0 -

Gets forgotten that to invest. Companies need to generate cash. This requires a Company to make post tax profits at the very least.
Turnover is vanity, profit is sanity but cash is king.0 -
You could say that about a lot of the stuff that appears on here. It's sensationalised by the media and the sheeple follow their lead hence the comment by the OP "and from the sheepish look on Breakfast this morning, it's obvious what they feel about it."You know what really annoys me, it's when people come out with things like "they shouldnt be making profits they should be reinvested into the infrastructure etc". Just because the presenter on Breakfast this morning wasn't positive it's affected someone enough for them to start a thread moaning about a corporation making a profit.0 -
Is it not possible to completely avoid using this companyMost of the rise in profit came from producing more oil and gas
They operate in USA as well, they can get very cheap gas there. But USA wont let them export it properly or maybe UK customers might benefit from Centrica more
I do own these shares, they run it sensibly and its got to profit to invest basically. The main thing to scrutinise is if they are competing freely or exploiting a formerly nationalised monopoly0 -

Please stay on topic rather than making yet another thread all about you.0
