I've viewed a 2nd car, is this anything to worry about?

My mate says the pic 2 component is a fuel canister, depending on where the car lived the rust is normal.

Ive viewed a few images of identical cars of a similar age & dont see the same visible rust problems in that area, so I think I best give this one a miss.

Ta very much for your advice:T
  • Picture 1 is a coolant hose which looks like it will start leaking in the near future.

Picture 2 is an EGR valve, external rust is not a problem so that wouldn't bother me although on all cars they can fail internally.

Picture 3 is just a bit of surface rust on the top strut nut from what I can see? So again not really an issue.

Thanks Nick - how much can it cost to replace a cooland hose / EGR valve?

EGR valve can be cleaned in many cases. The hose is quite easy to replace.

If you had them done as an add on to a service I doubt you would pay more than £100 for both. But why not just ask a garage?

Hi Bob, I only viewed the vehicle yesterday, needed to know what the damn part names were before venturing out to see a mechanic

7 year old cars need parts / work to keep them reliable.

Dont spend all your money buying a car. Keep £1000 back for repairs and
    you will be OK.

I'm no expert but is EGR mandatory on a 2005 car?
Worse case would it pass emissions with it blanked off?

Emissions can improve when blanked off sometimes.

Depends how healthy the rest of the engine and fuel system is.
