    Fair enough.

I tried to get a bit of boomer bashing in one of the subsequent replies, though I admit it wasnt easy with this story.

    It's easy, look....

If this kid was now a boomer and had done this 50 years ago he would probably be a very wealthy man now, despite being a "bozo"

The thing is that today this kid has got close to zero chance of ever achieving the prosperity enjoyed by us boomers, despite being resourceful and determined.

He will probably work harder and longer througout his life for much less return.
Just because of when he was born.

This is the sad reality facing the youth of today.

If I am a boomer, I am ayoung one. Started work at 13 etc...

Lucky I don't know just time and place. I know my parents and generations before them had it tough too but they still managed to feather their nest in the end, just took time, patience, prudence and hard work. Dad worked till 67 and mum into her 70s. Guess they instilled that lifestyle doctrine in us and we would still have prospered "relatively" whatever.

..and heaven knows he's miserable now.

I did a quick search to see what qualifications he had but couldn't find out. Randomly hiking through the snow doesn't seem like much of a plan but we all need that bit of luck every now and again.

He was going for a minimum wage job, something like doing dishes and clearing tables I imagine. You don't need to be smart for that, just willing to work.

I've done similar jobs in the past.

You just need to be clean, not have dirty clothes on and not smell.

Also the interviews for jobs like that tend to be sessions.

You turn up within an allotted time slot of 2-4 hours, and then they interview. If the store is new or having a recruitment drive they can have more than one session that day.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

Good free publicity for the restaurant owner.....

    My first thought ;)
