The Liberal Democrats hold on to the Hampshire seat of Eastleigh, see Ed Balls policy on the economy does not hold much sway.

In Eastleigh, then again they didn't have a 16k majority there, not so long ago like the party in 3rd ;)

Like there is in Europe, Japan and the USA ?

Labours arguments are making them look more and more inept by the day.

Today Brazil reported 0.9% for 2012.

    Labour are delusional.

it's not very healthy to get killed off! Cons Osborne snuffed out the flame of growth that Labour left, leading economists have looked at the trajectory upwards that growth would have taken if the Darling plan had been adhered to - now IMF etc are demanding Osborne return to it. Key to borrowing is getting a return on it! Money makes money, you only get out what you put in and OsBean isnt putting anything in

It must be rubbish being a lazy person having their benefits cut and that easy life wrenched away from them hey dlw? Welcome to the club mate. It's called real life. Suck it up!:T

Are you suggesting labour spent all the money on infrastructure? What are all these PFI off balance sheet liabilities doing popping up then? If only the focus had been on infrastructure rather than paying the wrong people more money things would be rather better.

No I was not intending to make that point. As you say it was partly spent on some very bad managers who failed to do the job properly and were probably not even committed to the concept of a NHS. PFI was indeed one way of getting modernised hospital infrastructure after years of enforced decline.

My point was intended to highlight that Labour did what they were elected to do in health and education. Some of this was also spend on paying medical staff more competitive salaries and recruiting more health professionals to reduce waiting lists and increase patient services.

I would accept that they could have used the money more wisely but at the time there were a million people awaiting operations due to the lack of qualified health professionals and inefficient services delivered in sub-standard facilities in delapidated hospitals. The results of Thatcher and Major neglect..Lest we forget!

Certain medical staff may have done well out of it GPs, consultants but the average clinical staff member have not really moved at all in that time.

Working hours and terms extended at existing rates. Frozen pay scales or 1% p.a. max. over a 3 year spell. Less career progression opportunities. Altered and reduced future pension provision twice, even before the current rearrangements. Now they are looking to reduce the contracted hours at the new lower hourly rate.

Now burdened with effectively 25 year mortgages that are eating cash (up to 14% of income) that should be spent on healthcare.

Another spend today and pay tomorrow concept.

Many organisations outsource their building services etc over a long term rather than accept the variable costs of running them in house. I agree that the commercial acumen of those negotiating the PFI deals was on occasions lacking but what was the alternative?

Probably about as high as those involved in defence procurement and just as many of them pro rata probably as well.
