    Just to update.

I found Dulux Trade Matt White Emulsion to be very thick and gave a very patchy coverage on previously painted coving.

I'm not sure now whether to use a different brand or just water down the Dulux and apply another coat.

You mean that the sheen is inconstant?

Just water it down slightly, up to 10% or more if you need to

I tried to apply it evenly but it was hard to see where I'd already painted. I'll have a go at watering it down.

Definately would agree Dulux Trade over Crown. Took 5 coats (and a few touch up layers in certain spots) to cover the blue walls in our living room. Dulux Trade, same colour in the hallway, sorted in 2! It's a lot thicker but it went pretty smooth with a foam roller (a bit tacky with the fluffy kind, foam was definately better)

All trade and most quality retail paint needs to be thinned so the paint flows during application,Most people seem to think the thicker the paint the better but this is not true in getting the best coverage. Also the pigment quality helps a lot

I've always had very good results with WICKES ceiling paint.

Though I work for Wickes (in K&B), I am not a massive fan of all the products instore but have always found the paint excellent.

    2nd update

Watered down paint by 20% and it's still like painting with mayonnaise.
The coving and the ceiling are still patchy, so I'll be trying another brand.

My advice, unless you're a pro, is to stay well away.
