Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

In addition, if you continue to pay Sky for Sky+ features then the old viewing card is essential.0 -
1. Most TVs I've seen have a usb port, however only some mention a USB recording facility. Does any TV with a usb port allow you to pause and record live TV or is it only certain televisions?
Absolutely not all TVs, and it's a minefield. You're also very likely tying up the only tuner in the TV, meaning you can't watch anything else. If you're used to Sky+ this will feel like an awful step backwards.
2. Once Sky has been cancelled, can we connect a freeview box to the dish in order to receive a signal?
NO. Freeview boxes connect to aerials, FreeSat boxes connect to dishes, but I think you know that now.
3. I have seen people mentioning FreeSat as an alternative to freeview but don't really understand the difference. Would we be better off getting freesat instead of freeview?
See above. Yes, unless you've got a good aerial, in which case you can choose.0 -
OP, Freesat is the obvious choice if you want PVR facilities, as it's simply a straight box swap-nothing else required. If not, just use your existing Sky box to get the !!!!!! channels. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Love Film & Netflicks are both great options for you although they still have a monthly charge its a lot lower than sky and it full of great TV programs and films that you can watch anytime0
