Painting kitchen cupboards

It's a good idea , I am just about to start mine , the cost of spraying the kitchen out ways the cost of replacing it, just make sure you get the right tools and it's all about the prep work , take your time and don't rush and you will get a good result0

Hi
First of all find what us your cupboard made of.
If its made of compressed vinyl, don't try to paint it , would be ruined0 -
We have just finished painting our naff kitchen cupboards and I wish we'd done it years ago. Used Farrow and Ball 'Clunch'-took 3 coats. Used 'ESP' primer so no sanding etc. Our door fronts were fine, so it was only the actual 'body'' of the cupboards that needed painting. I used a 4 inch roller and it took about 8 hours in total. Currently in the process of decoupaging my knobs....0

You like a natural wood look in your kitchen - clearly that's your choice and taste, but why accuse people of being sheep or slaves to fashion because they don't? Personally, I hate wood kitchens, always have done.
I think you are right. S/he like wooden cabinet as I do. I think its very disappointing when you paint over wooden cabinets, and you cannot take back again and remove the paint.
Buut again you are right, people has their own taste. Specifically in the KITCHEN0 -

1Robert1 hope it goes well.
With regards to painting a wood kitchen, we are going to be replacing some of our oak bespoke kitchen - hopefully - soon due to poor design but the floor to ceiling larder cupboards we are going to paint, it does pain me in a sense to do this, however, we have a gorgeous dark wood block floor, small arch windows and a wood kitchen and it is like being in a tomb. We will also be buying painted wood doors for the new kitchen as we want something that lasts. Some people like the strength of wood but not always the shade it comes in.
It's great we all have different likes and dislikes otherwise the world would be a very boring place :j0 -
1robert1 are you painting the worktops too?0

Can I offer a tip? Best thing to use to paint wooden kitchen cupboards is Zinsser. It's a primer sort of paint, but can be used alone or under any paint.
You need a thin coat on there, and it primes most surfaces to perfection. I used it on waxed wood and there's no extra priming needed, just a coat of Zinsser then paint as usual, no sanding or anything like that.
Annie Sloan is good too but I'm more of a fan of Zinsser + paint.0 -
I found Annie Sloan great for a distressed look, but not easy to use, impossible for a non distressed look. I'd honestly be wary, sorry.M.A.C.A.W member number 39

ahh i wish i'd seen these comments before, but ive purchased the paint now.
Thanks though for the tips and recommendations. i might have a little look at other brands and see before i start. its white at the moment, they are wood but coated in a kind of plastic. the lady in the shop said we could just paint straight on.
What would you use to paint the work tops please? the lady in the shop said not to use annie sloan as it would more than likely hold on to any bacteria.0
