  • I'm biased (and it may be too far for a weekend) but I'd go for Cardiff.

Shops if you want to shop, musemums/theatres if you want that sort of thing, plenty of parks if you just want to wander.

Oh and the people are friendly as well!

I have no idea, I thought city because there might be more to do, but I don't think it would be relaxing... I wondered about going to London or somewhere similar city wise as there is Museums and Markets but I wouldn't know where to stay and the last time I went to London alone I was in the middle of a psychotic break and was sectioned... I think I may be banned lol!

EDIT: I am based in Hull

Don't go anywhere.. come see me for a cuppa! (near university)

Whitby, Brid, Scarborough, Leeds, York, Lincoln... lots of lovely places to visit.

If you're female you can stay at The Women's Holiday Centre in Horton in Ribblesdale in Cumbria (Google them) where myself and my DD went about 20years ago. It's really cheap and they operate on a sliding scale in accordance to your income. You cook for yourself and you share dorms, or if I recall rightly, they may have family rooms. There are events that might be of interest to you ranging from drumming, creative writing etc., There's a shop and a pub across the main road if you want a bit of 'normality' and there's lots of beautiful scenery there as it's part of the Three Peaks.

If you're a member of the Quakers, or know of someone then ask them for a list of retreats where you can find these spaces around the country for those seeking peace, safety and solitude.

(oh, and btw, i went from Nott'm via the train as I didn't drive then = still don't).

My friend went to a Buddhist monastery in Scotland somewhere and thoroughly enjoyed the experience (she was in your young 20s then).

Or as others have suggested go to a city and lose yourself in all the culture and excitement that they can bring. Just make sure you suss out what events are happening in that area before you book anywhere... Hostels are great as you'll have more chance of meeting ppl than being in a soulless hotel.

May be a wee bit biased as I live there but Edinburgh is lovely. Being a city there's plenty to do, shops, bars, museums etc but also lots of parks, beaches and can get out to some gorgeous countryside with a very short bus or train ride. Plenty of hostels as well for cheap accomodation.

    How about York?

It's not too far so not hugely expensive on the train. You could stop in a Premier Inn, there's one about 10minutes from York station.

It's handy for the city too. There's lots of stuff to do in York but I have no idea what you like so hesitate to suggest anything.

I think York's a good idea and I'd recommend the youth hostel which has small rooms with private facilities

I've been thinking a lot about my trip today and I've decided to go to Edinburgh. It's somewhere I've wanted to go for ages and would be a real adventure!

So if anyone can reccommend somewhere to stay and places to go that would be amazing!

    I'd like to:

Have a mooch round the city
    Go on a bus tour
Visit an open mic/poetry/music/literary bar type place

I'd love to do something really mind-expanding but I have no idea what!

I am going for 3 nights Thursday - Sunday. So I will have a full Friday and Saturday to explore.

It's a bit more expensive to go to Edinburgh so my budget will be stretched but i'll take some food in my bag instead of eating out!

Hostels are great -there is always Australian backpackers looking for people to go for a drink with

Budget in your budget for going for a few drinks (even if soft) with the people from the hostel.

Look out for the edinburgh dungeons tour it is meant to be very good, have fun!
