As for being 16....doesnt the NHS cover you if you're still in full time education up to the age of 18?

Once diagnosed, it can make a huge difference. 2 of my close friends are both dyslexic and both are extremely intelligent with one running his own company. You can discuss complex matters with them and they'll understand them perfectly.....but put it to them in writing and they'd have no idea what it even says. They're probably the reason I dislike people using dyslexia as an excuse, I know how hard it is for them and a lot of people are starting to equate dyslexia with being unintelligent.

By the same token, I know someone who certainly is dyslexic but has never been officially diagnosed as such, nor do they want to be. They feel that an official diagnosis won't gain them anything, but they may need to disclose it eg on job applications.

Cos all your posts are pure crap

And you can't spell feel, either in upper or lower case :D

Only two people have actually backed up their answers with any reasoning - mo786uk and shaun from Africa. And both of them agree with AAAAA. So maybe it's your posts that are pure crap.

And you don't know how to use full stops.

You dont have to disclose disabilities. Usually when employers ask about disabilities its to see if any arrangements can be made (in other words to ensure that their disability does not stop them getting a job that they are able to do).

Personally I only disclose mine if (for example) they have a dress code of high heels for women. Some days the pain means I can barely walk, never about totter around in heels.

Never did understand equality questionnaires though. Surely if my race/sex/religion/disabilities doesn't matter, they shouldn't be asking about it. Some employers do use them only for informative purposes but others used to try and make sure a certain % of their workforce were non-white/female/homosexual/whatever. Which imo is discriminatory in itself. Thankfully, I havent heard of any companies doing this in a long while.

  • Not speaking about the OP here as I obviously have no idea whether they are dyslexic or not.....

But over the last 10 years I seen an increase in the number of people claiming to have dyslexia......many of whom are not in fact dyslexic and just say they are to explain poor spelling (for example).

Which is a shame as usually people who genuinely do have dyslexia are of average or above average intelligence. Below average intelligence people claiming to be dyslexic just attaches a stigma of stupidity to actual dyslexics.

People who can't spell claim they have dyslexia because the fear being ridiculed for being poorly educated. However they then get ridiculed anyway because people don't believe they are dyslexic.

I wonder how many people stay away from these boards even when they can offer useful contributions, only because their spelling is not great...

We have quite a few posters who usually give excellent advice despite not having the best spelling. And then of course we have complete tallywhackers who try and belittle said posters purely based on spelling.

It gets old fast. You want to pick on someone for their spelling, become an English teacher.

The thing is when People have corrected my spelling they KNOW what I have written. They have just CHOSEN to correct my spelling to feel superior.

I imagine your poor spelling was pointed out because you were making yourself out to be superior. If you are going to be quite so arrogant, you really need to make sure your posts are as perfect as you make out you are!
