Thanks for all the information re my photo's I have now got the DVD and have the photo's on it. I then tried to put them on to my desktop and whilst they showed the photo's on the computer but I don't think they are there when I take the DVD out.
Will need to have another look at matters.
Thank you again. At least I now have the photo's which I can send out to Australia.0 -

Then in that case you have not yet copied them over to the hard drive on your PC.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Have you tried Google Picasa, its free and is ideal for sorting and editing photos on your computer. Very user friendly
You can also create on-line albums for sharing photos in an on-line album that can be emailed. Also you can create a photo CD from it.
I have used it for a number of years to share photos with people all over the place, make photo collages and create photo CDs
Good luck0 -

Open the DVD. It will either show all the individual Photo files or they may be contained inside a Folder.
If it contains a Folder - Right Click on the Folder and select Copy then Right Click on your Desktop and select Paste. A copy of the folder will now be on your Desktop with the photos inside.
If the individual photo files are there without being in a Folder - First, Right Click on your Desktop and select New then Folder. You will now have an empty new Folder on your Desktop. Next, go to the Edit Menu of your DVD and click Select All. Go to the Edit Menu again and click Copy. Now, Right Click on the new Folder you've just created on your Desktop and select Paste. The photos will now be inside the Folder on your Desktop.
The same thing can be done with "Drag and Drop" but this way you can see more clearly what's going on .0 -

Do take Agrinall's advice before sending off the DVD to AU !!!!! Making sure you have a copy of all your important data - and these really do sound important to you - preferably on totally separate media should be adopted. Not a second copy on your hard drive as it may fail. Burn to a DVD copy is good but remember they do not last for ever so keep it (them) safe and re copy them after say 5 years is a good policy. It's so cheap to do that these days and compares well with an online backup (except that online is a different storage location! - think fires/floods etc), which will probably cost for the quantity of data involved0
