Freezing here and we have had a lot of snow, but it hasn't really settled much thankfully.

Had to pop down to the market to pick up some potatoes and other veggies, then I had some stuff to pop into the hospice CS and I came away with brand new knitting needles and some patterns and it only cost me 70p :jthen went into Wilkinson's to get a few bits and bought some anti freeze and de-icer for half price so that will go towards next winter, because we still have quite a bit left that we picked up last year win win :D
I must get some more wool soon, luckily we have a new haberdashery and wool shop that has just opened in town, so when the weather is a bit warmer I will go down to see what they have.

NPM, lovely to hear you posting and I hope that you are allowed home soon x x x . How is Noah taking things?

Oooooh Sun, sorry for that Dory moment :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I am going to brave going to the shed

Hi I've been reading this thread all week while I've been on holiday, I work in early years, and thought it would be polite to join in....
You all seem so friendly and I enjoy reading about other people's lives....yes, I'm nosy.
Been especially interested in the updates from the lady whose daughter has been abroad...Africa I think?
Quiet day here....eldest daughter (16) is at work, though should be home soon.....she'll be complaining as it's snowing really heavily, so she'll either walk and get wet or have to hang ound waiting for a bus home.
Youngest daughter (13) has a friend over, so lots of giggling from her room. I'm pleased she has company as she's been quite ill for the past few months. Think she has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but doctor not keen to diagnose her till she's been ill for more than 4 months. All quite a worry and I know she's worrying about how she'll feel for school on Monday, as she had to have a lot of time off before the holidays. She knows she needs to have a quiet weekend and then hopefully she'll be ok to go, but she's getting so fed up with it all now.
Should be doing some psychology for my Open University course, but can't seem to get into it today.

Oh, my Old Style tip....I bought a ham shank from local butcher's shop on Monday.....boiled it up and made a huge pan of soup and enough meat off it for 2 quiches so far and a small bag full in the freezer. It was the nicest home made soup I've ever made....

Would that be my updates? My daughter is working as a foster carer in South Africa.

I was updating some photos earlier if you would like to have a look.

Hi NPM: I've been wondering where you had got to. Thought that perhaps your life was so hectic that you were going cold turkey on forums.
Keeping everything crossed, (as I expect you are) that all goes well for the next few weeks and that Asher Alice stays in her comfy home until it's time to leave.

    Welcome dp.

    Afternoon everyone

    dp1 - welcome, we're a friendly bunch.

Anyone heard from bargainbird? Hope she's ok.

Have been quite busy today, made the boys a HM pizza for lunch, made lemon drizzle cake and banana and honey loaf, mince pies were a disaster and are in the bin. My pastry (shortcrust) is very hit and miss - it missed big style today! It seems to crack when I roll it out but I'm worried about adding too much water as this makes it dry - any hints/tips/advice please?

Tonight's dinner is going to be stuffed chicken breasts stuffed with cream cheese, wholegrain mustard and grated cheddar wrapped in bacon, roast pots, braised red cabbage, carrots, brussels and green beans, gravy. Red cabbage is a new dish - hoping it tastes as good as when we had it a couple of weeks ago at a dinner we went too - would be nice to have another veg dish as getting bored with the same old thing. Chicken breasts and veggies are all prepped and ready to be cooked once DH lets me know what time he'll be home, bottle of chardonnay chilling in the fridge too - going to be a chilled evening I think, I even have my clothes sorted for tomorrow's meeting!

Keeps safe and well everyone, take care those with snow/ice x

...Going to cancel some magazine subscriptions - not my favourites like Keepers at Home or Country Living but Cake Decorating, Quilting, and Baked and Delicious. I have a kitchen FULL of silicone baking stuff!! Debating whether to cancel Psychologies as I do like it but some issues don't have much relevance to me.

Does anyone else out there have a magazine obsession?!...

sneaks in & holds up hand

I do, but my NYR was to be sensible and to cancel the subs to 2 mags that I don't really read.....and the final copy of each was really interesting & I read them from cover to cover! I also vowed not to buy the other mag I used to regularly buy, and so far have been very good and not done so :p

I get Prima & Good Housekeeping on subs (special offers at £9.99 & £14.99 for 12 months!), and Gardeners World (but probably won't renew that when it expires and may renew the other gardening one I get instead if I get a good offer from them ;))

I've recently subscribed to the Food Heaven mags for 3 months, so will see how I get on with those - they are baking, cupcakes & cake decorating, as I'm hoping to start doing that as a paying hobby, to develop as a future income.

    Ready made :D

Despite having cold fingers, I cannot make pastry to save my life - except choux pastry, which I find is really easy! So I always buy - usually Jus-Rol or Tesco's all butter ones.

    Afternoon All

Welcome dp, good to have you join us.
Judi - the babies would melt an ice heart, just lovely.
NPM - Hope things go ok.

Woke up about 6 this morning and then went back to sleep till 8.30 - very unusual for me. DD at work, home soon, been doing some more de-cluttering and cleaned the house from top to bottom for the viewing on Monday but that has now been cancelled! Still, I have a nice clean and tidy house (apart from DDs room!).

Cold start this morning but the sun has been shining and it is a glorious day. Had lots of old paperwork to throw out so took it outside and had a little bonfire, I do like a good bonfire.

Found more tools in the shed of doom to put on Gumtr££, been lucky so far, hope it continues.

Something quick and easy for tea as it's Saturday, probably garlic kievs and curly fries from the freezer, not healthy but hey ho!

Hope you all have a good weekend. Take care. XX
