O/S Daily Saturday 23 February This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well”

Late last night there were a few snow flakes coming down here. i'ts not amounted to anything, (Not yet anyway)

My SIL will be dropping the girls back t about 10:00am this morning as we will then go off to get the train.
I hope that enjoyed there day out and sleep over yesterday. I also hope that are in a carlmish mood. Don't really wont two very hyper girls going around the shops!

Well I hope that you all have a great day.
Enjoy:j:j:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Dry, cloudy, chilly but no frost here this morning.
DH up and now in the bath, he woke me stupid early and I couldn't get back to sleep - he's not working or at the training course today - he has a caravan meeting this morning, then another this afternoon - he'll be gone all day - nice quiet day for me and the boys then!!
Dinner last night was spare ribs in sticky sauce, mash and corn on the cob - I'm pleased with how they turned out and the butcher was really helpful - the ribs were on special offer and still in racks so I told him what I wanted to do and he chopped them all into the individual ribs ready to me to pre-cook them as stated in the recipe. Certainly something I will be making again. Remembered to get the chicken breasts out of the freezer, tonight we will be having chicken breasts stuffed with cream cheese wrapped in bacon, with roast pots, carrots, brussels, braised red cabbage, peas, yorkshires and gravy.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I got the food shopping done, kept going with the washing, drying and ironing, housework, changed our bed, then did work on DH's report for today - this took me loads longer than I had allowed - spent at least 2-3 hours doing this but all done now. I wanted to get it done in the daytime so I could relax with a glass of wine with my dinner last night and knew that I couldn't if the report wasn't finished. Did spent some time yesterday looking at the grocery budget and menu plan and ideas - have a menu plan in place for this next week (the only day I have a problem with is tomorrow night not sure what we will be having) - the fridge is completely full and storecupboards are pretty full too, so any trips to the SM should be limited. The food budget is completely blown so will hopefully get to the end of the week with no more SM spends then will start again next Friday and register for GC properly then give it a go. The boys have requested HM ham and mushroom pizza for lunch - so will make the dough in the BM later. I will have my normal salad.
I will be cooking/baking today as the tins are now empty - thinking of mince pies, banana loaf (bananas need using up), lemon drizzle (lemons need using up), Victoria sponge and hob nobs. Want to see if I can get into the habit of cooking double quantities and then freezing half so I have another meal ready for nights when we're busy/short of time/cba.
Have a great Saturday everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone,
Halight good luck shopping with the girls!
Hester, Miffy and all other teachers Enjoy the last few days of half term.
Spent yesterday (well most of it) at IKEA with DD1 and DD2. we had a really good time and only bought what we had gone for (and some straws!)
The girls get on really well at the moment even though there are 2 years between them (they are 15 and 13).
DS had a few friends round for beer and pizza for his birthday last night and they all seemed to have a good time, I went to bed before they left!
They did leave the front room window open all night! It is a good job there were no opportunist burglars around.
Off in a minute to have my hair cut.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning all
Hubby's been dropped at work, he maybe working tomorrow as well, half term break & I haven't had a single lie in & poor hubby will have worked 21 days without a break.
Steak for tea for hubby as a treat, jacket potato for me.
Payday next week, shopping list done & is looking cheaper than last month, phew.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all!
Been up since stupid o'clock, think the cat woke me running about like a daftie. WM has done its thing, other than that no OS to speak of, as today I will be a lady who lunches, monthly day out wth my friend, this time we are trying a Thai restaurant, then will retire to the pub and put the world to rights over a vino or two! I predict I will be scooped into a taxi and in bed very early as I am very tired, but who knows!
Have a good day all, whatever you're up to, and watch the weather, its been snowing lightly nearby and the sky looks full of the white stuff!RIP Iain

On leave all this week so have many little plans!
I want to build some raised beds for my vegetables - just 2 as I don't have much room. Off wood shopping this week!
Going to cancel some magazine subscriptions - not my favourites like Keepers at Home or Country Living but Cake Decorating, Quilting, and Baked and Delicious. I have a kitchen FULL of silicone baking stuff!! Debating whether to cancel Psychologies as I do like it but some issues don't have much relevance to me.
Does anyone else out there have a magazine obsession?!
Really want to bake this week as I have a cook book that I want to try out - American though so I will have to faff with the measurements.
Plus a clear out is planned .... I get far too attached to stuff! I just don't know what to do with some things - I have a copy of The Friendship Book of Frances Gay from 1952 which I have read most of but it is old so I feel responsible for it!! Crazy I know!!
Love reading this board there is so much useful information here and people are actually willing to share it!

Morning all,
Still bitterly cold here and snowing off and on, for the first time ever I don't want it to settle, dd's flight comes in early in the morning and I don't want anything delaying it, cant wait to see her :j
Need to get a puncture fixed on my car today, I had the same tyre done about a month ago so hope its not a problem with the car.
Going to come home and have a good clean / tidy round and put clean bedding on dd's bed so its all nice and fresh for her, must remember to take her coat to collect her, this weather will come as a shock to her, today before their flight they are going to visit an elephant orphanage and then a giraffe sanctuary , lucky lucky girls then an all night flight, so she will be shattered tomorrow.
Chilli and rice for dinner OH can cook, one load in the wm, and another to follow, will get them on the line, despite the cold weather things are drying well outside.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all,
Only just got up:o stayed up late watching Pretty Woman after watching Richard Gere on Graham Norton. Mmm looking good:p
Just a quick bacon bitty and then a clean around. I managed to lose the filter out of our vac last week so it keeps cutting out. Just hope I can do a quick Hoover round. I've ordered one, just waiting for it to arrive.
We went to Mr A last night. I'm finding it much cheaper. We are managing o stick to our budget reasonably well. I'm actually enjoying the challenge to be honest. Though it was difficult to admit we have a debt problem, I think it's the best decision we have ever made, and at least now I feel we are moving slowly in the other direction.
Need to strip the boys bed this morning. Ds2 is in Brussels but ds3 friend stayed last night after they had been to a party so I shall freshen it up for him coming back and ds3 would never think of changing his bed, so shall get him on that this morning.
This afternoon we are popping to Ikea I have some birthday money so would rather spend it on things we need ( other than new knickers):rotfl:
No food to cook today as we are at friends for dinner tonight. It's usually a big curry which we love. I shall take my Cinzano and diet lemonade so I don't drink too much.
Enough waffle, have a good Saturday all, hugs where needed J xStarted Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.

Good Morning everyone ,don't bin it angel_jenny I can remember my late Mum reading it when I was a little girl my Dad had bought it for her,I think most housewives had a copy, it was very popular at the time.I can see her so clearly sitting by the big range in the kitchen after lunch reading it and I was playing with our dog on the floor I was about 8-9 I think.
The only magazine she ever bought was the Womans Weekly as it had decent knitting patterns in and I would cut out the small square with the story of the Robin family in it and paste it into my scrapbook with glue made from flour and water.we knew how to live in those days
:):) because of being post-war there were few toys as such in the shops so a lot of childrens stuff had to be home made.My late brother John made me a dolls house from orange box wood from the market, and the wall paper was lined paper from his excercise school book which he had coloured in different stripes. He even made some tiny table and chairs from left over bits of balsa wood that my middle brother David had in his odds and ends box.
The boys were both fairly handy at making things and had a big box each that sat in the cellar, and in it would be left over scraps of wood, metal etc .David my middle brother grew up and became a car mechanic and is still very handy with his hands, and has built two houses in France (one of which he lives in) and is in the process and erecting another one.Not bad for an old codger of 72,
he just loves making things
We recycled almost everything in those days as it was difficult to buy much in the shops. Last week when my builder was here he put up a shelf for me in the kitchen, it was a leaf of which I had taken from a white formica table in my conservatory as it was a bit too big. It makes a nice shelf though, and I have stacked my lock'n'lock boxes on it to make some room on the kitchen unit tops for baking.I'm still recycling after all these years.:):)
Well enough of the waffling,I had a great time at the quiz night at the hospice last night and for once I am going to sing the praise of Barclays bank as the amount raised by all the raffles and games and quizs was around 3860 odd pounds and Barclays bank will double it as a donation towards the Hopsice which is run on virtual voluntary donations, so well done to Barclays for helping out a local small community project.
Mind you I didn't get home until around 11.30 as the snow was a bit of a nuisance on the motorway .Its still snowing now but not laying much thank goodness but it is very cold.I coul do with some potatos but will adapt and use some chips tonight from the freezer as I really don't fancy going out in the cold as its really a biting wind as well.So a pottering around day today I think my eldest DD may pop in later as she is back from her short break in Devon.
Hope everyone is wrapped up well and keeps warm
Cheers chums JackieO xx0
