Travel Insurance with pre medical conditions

  • A few years back (2006) most companies wouldn't insure my husband to go on holiday because of his pre existing conditions and he was on dialysis 7 days a week but a company called worldwide travel covered us for £60 for 14 nights away. I don't know if they are still around though
september wins - toshiba laptop, timotei shampoo & conditioner, mccains games, pimms picnic blanket.
october wins - grants tumblers, £20 petrol voucher, sega console, iphone
novembers wins - £50 on walkers rainy day, £50 itunes voucher
    march wins - dog treats

We've googled and gone through forum suggestion but these aren't covered by 200 or 220 pre existing conditions. Flaming nuisance! ;)

sometimes you need to phone for extra conditions to be underwritten. Usually £10 - 15 extra on the premium.

Try good to go insurance or all clear.

  • I recently needed travel insurance for a 10 day trip to Kenya. I decided to be totally honest about my mental health history and found Ok To Travel very affordable.

search google, many insurers say they will cover 200 pre-existing conditions, personally i usually just tell fibs and x my fingers,at least the luggage gets covered

I personally would never tell lies to get insurance because it may well back fire on you should you have to make a claim.........

I usually hunt around on compare the market and confused, I have 3 pre existing conditions which I always tell them about, good job I did because I was taken ill last year in Tenerife and spent 6 days in hospital out of a 7 day holiday and the cost come to 6.700 euros, which my insurance paid,it was one of my pre existing illnesess that put me in hospital.......

If I hadnt of declared it I wouldnt have been covered..............Definately not worth lying over, I always say if you can afford a holiday then pay the insurance.............

Try Travellers Health Check insurance at http://www.holidaysafe.co.uk/

I have always found them to be very reasonable regarding my wife's health conditions.

EHIC plus is good and very reasonable. We used to have an annual policy with them but they now decline to insure my husband as do Age Concern, Post Office and a whole host of others.

We now have travel insurance, Europe only, with the Co-Op.They do no medical screening at all but exclude anything you see a specialist for. This suits us as my husband is now covered for his heart disease, insulin dependent diabetes, COPD etc. He is not covered for any problem arising from Rheumatoid Arthritis or leukaemia but we don't think either of those will cause a sudden emergency.

They were excellent a couple of years ago when we had a large claim and couldn't have been more helpful to me alone and worried with a hospitalised very sick husband for 3 weeks.

That is a bit of a dangerous game to play if I may say so.

Mum & dad went to Cyprus about 8 years ago and took out a policy from the Post Office. Mum fell ill on day 3 of a 7 day break with a liver complaint (something that she has had for years) Before they went mum actually spoke with the GP about going and he said that she would have no problems.

The 7 day holiday became 22 days!! The hospital bill came to just over £10,000 (5 days stay for rest), dad had to pay for another 15 days at the hotel as the hospital whilst discharging mum refused for them to fly back home.

All in all I had to arrange a transfer of £15,000 so that they could pay for everything.

As it was a preexisting condition albeit that the GP gave permission for the holiday and that mum hadn't had any problems with her liver for a few years, Fortis, the insurance company refused to cover the cost!!

what was a £1200 7 day holiday actually ended up costing them over £16,000!!

I found a useful link at Cancer Research UK.

On that site search for Travel Insurance. The link is ata the top of the found list. In there is a list of organistaions that also specialise in more serious medical condions.

As I am a "new user" I am prohibited at enclosing the link.

    Regards
