  • So. Date. Nice guy. But, on first impressions not my type, and after a 3 hour conversation, the impression is that he's decent and solid, but just not the right fit for me. Very concrete and not very abstract, think I'm too serious for him and we would bore each other! He's in sales. Which I admire but it's as far away from what I'd be able to do as is physically possible...

But, he's got his act together in many ways and is driven. Two kids, so responsible.

So, in short, I'm not sure whether to persevere with it or not.

    Saturday morning.

Good things that happened money wise:
    - I've had the rent from the new lodger
    - I've had £125 from m&s bank for opening an account with them a few months ago.
    - I went out last night and only spent £5.20 on two drinks. (!!)

Good things that happened other than money:
    - I went out and had a good and deep chat with a new person about fulfilment etc. so interesting to find out other people's perspectives
    - I have got a hair appointment today and going to go off earlier and have a wander around the shops, as my hair will take at least 3 hours of sitting in a chair!
    - it's the weekend! I have the house to myself today, as both lodgers away
    - my new lodger seems to be a lovely girl :)
    - I have got into a good book
    - I don't have to get up and drive to work!
    - I made up 8 hours flexi time last week!
    - I am going to skype with a good friend and make plans for next weekend in London. Exciting stuff!

So, money wise, this week I am going to pay off my HSBC credit card with the rent money. This should bring down my total debt by about £500. We shall have to see what the total looks then! In about 2 weeks time I should be able to add £400 to the pay off when my other lodger pays her rent. I so badly want to see the numbers go down!

Woohoo all is good isn't it? :) Glad your new lodger has paid and that you won't have to sell her furniture now :rotfl: What are you doing with your £125 bonus? Treat or debt? :D

Love this positive post Catriona :T :)

Glad it went well ish. Well not a total disaster anyway :rotfl::p Remember that Paula Abdul song? Opposites attract?!

If you want my opinion, which you're about to get anyway (;):D) I'd say it was the first date and it's definitely worth seeing him again, when perhaps it's more relaxing, less nerve wracking etc. What have you got to lose? Go for it.......its a nice chat and a night out if nothing else. :D

  • Hi Catriona. Thanks for the post on my diary. I've just finished all of yours and you have made so much progress.

I'm a bit confused though lol. When you originally had your diary going you mentioned the loft conversion so that you could have two lodgers. I notice that the loft hasn't been done yet so where is the second lodger. I might have missed something somewhere along the lines lol.

I really think the knowledge you have regarding mortgages and card transfers is amazing. I don't have a mortgage and only got two credit cards with small limits just to get my credit better so don't really need to understand it. I did take in all the info you had about your savings though and hopefully when new job starts next month I can get my EF going.

I agree with Ena about a second date and I hope your week ahead sees the same happy mood as the weekend.

    Take care.

Ena, you're not wrong. Im not going to have to sell her stuff off just yet! ;)

Aaah, you see re the £125, if it was cash, I'd pay the debt, but it's a voucher! I'm thinking of putting it towards something... Not sure what. Maybe a pair of boots or a coat, their Limited Collection stuff can be quite nice! So, the intentions are good, but this time I'm just going to have to spend it!

Thank you thank you, let's keep positive!

Yup yup. Maybe we can just be mates, even if only for a bit! Have texted him to say let's see where things take us and if he wanted to, I'd like to grab a drink some time. Said I liked him, just wasn't sure if I wasn't too serious for him. It's up to him now.

....wow, he replied fast. It looks like it's ok and we can just hang out.

Awww.. Thanks Tink! You're very sweet. And welcome!!!

You see, I just love splitting hairs. That's what my mother tells me!! :rotfl:
Or maybe I don't love it, my stupid brain irritates me, it won't stop bugging me, but I can't help it... Hence all the mortgage research. Thanks for being kind.

The new lodger is living downstairs in what used to be the dining room, and it's working out ok, as it's a little bit out of the way, even if it's downstairs. She's lovely and easy going.

So, really, financially for the time being there is no incentive to do the attic, as the house can bring in the same income, without the work. And the lodger is already in, so I'm going to leave it like that and just get on with everything else.

So what's your plan with your finances then Tink?

Or, secret option C? You can lurk around the tills, waiting for someone to whip their cash out and then shout "NO! Swap me your lovely cash for these equally lovely vouchers" Hey presto, you get the cash for debts, they get their goods as well as a nice fuzzy feeling for doing something nice. Is that a go-er? :rotfl::D

Excellent news. He sounds like a decent sort! When are you seeing him again then? :)
