    If you feel what you have to go through to enter some competitions leaves you at risk of infection (visiting unfamiliar sites, clicking unknown links etc), quite simply trust your common sense and don't enter those competitions.     I do use my common sense but even the most trusted of comp sites sometimes has issues.

    I am having trouble uninstalling Norton, not sure if its uninstalled.... windows firewall won't turn on, tried running Norton uninstall tool, but it seemed to stall as did when I uninstalled Norton from programs.Tried to find Norton via run command it's doesn't seem to be there. any help please.

    Windows Defender is on now though, I can't understand if Norton has gone then. Never again will I buy this rubbish.

    Well, is Norton still listed in your Programs menu, or in Control Panel?

    No it's not but in the control panel where firewall is, it says these setting are being managed by Norton 360.

    What does it currently say in the action centre?

    Is your Windows 8 installation up to date?

    Do you get the same problem downloading and installing other programmes say Ccleaner.
    The other thing you could try is Norton Power Eraser, assuming you can run it.
