My cat was given a collar because she sat on the table when I collected her nibbling the stitches in front of the Nurse :D

We did feed her from a flat saucer/plate rather than a bowl and she got the hang of it after a few days. Certainly the tuna she had when she came home got eaten up no trouble.

She also soon worked out sitting there with a "poor me" face and drooping collar got some fuss!

My cat had a collar but wasn't given any painkillers at all afterwards. Didn't think they were normally given after a spaying?

Dot was fitted with a collar and had it off before I had even got out of the vets. When I got home myself and my partner refitted it and then began the game of find the cat and the collar and refit for the next 5 days. In the end on day 6 she managed to get the collar off and bite the stitches out ,but as she was healing up ok and there was no infection the vet just said to leave her be

I was given Metacam 0.5mg/ml oral suspension for cats - told to give her 3.7 dose (via a syringe with no needle, asked to put it in food or directly into mouth, neither which has been achieved yet! as pain relief.

A spaying is in effect a hysterectomy for cats, so I would imagine there is pain, removal of the womb is no laughing matter no?

Still, as I am awaiting the new soft e-collar and she can't eat with this one, all I have managed to get down her so far are about 20 Dreamies (Beef Flavour, her favourite) she can't get her head into cat bowl and won't eat off my fingers, though she is still licking my fingers madly. I love her so much, breaking my heart all this :( just waiting on that soft collar from eBay-

My cat has been living in Guinean pig cage for 6 weeks now, she has pins and external fixation in a broken leg and in't supposed to walk around, therefore the small cage.
She also has to wear a collar, and like Shelley I got the soft fabric one, from amazon. She and I hated the hard plastic one, we took it off for feeding and while keeping an eye on her, but she really fought when we had to put it back on, and it was hard and scratchy, forcing it over her poor ears. The soft fabric one is much more comfortable, she forgets about it.
Hopefully pins will come out next week, and she can mobilise again. I'm just worried she'll leave home, she was semi-feral when we adopted her only last September and became very trusting and loving. But now she is probably thinking we are horrible cruel cat-nappers and she'll move out ... I so hope not!

    I've been Money Tipped!
We tried our cat with no collar after being spayed because it drove her mad but she the proceeded to pick her stitches out with her teeth and prompted another trip to the vet to have them re done!

Needless to say on return from the vet the collar went back on!

Use a different bowl? Raise the bowl on top of another upside down bowl plate...whatever...I'm sure you can work something out.

I had to hold Pixies first couple of meals up to her mouth (inside the cone) on a shallow saucer as she couldn't get near the dish with the cone on.
If that doesn't work would she eat from a spoon?

I know you don't want to take the cone off (I was the same) but if nothing works to get food and meds into her I'd take it off, watch her eat then put it back on again, just until the fabric one arrives.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

We've had 4 cats spayed and none of them had any pain medication that we had to administer. They had an injection before they left the vets and that was that. (It was 10 years ago though so maybe they're kinder now!).
