fallen for kids teacher

  • I'm a teacher. My first question is how come you know so much about the teacher? It's rare I talk to a parent about anything at all except their child - no time/inclination otherwise.

I would not become involved with the parent of one of the children I teach. I would see that as pretty unprofessional and think a lot of other teachers would feel the same.

If you are serious, and genuinely feel something for this person, then I would suggest waiting until they at least no longer teach your child.

Really? God help any kids of teachers who happen to be at the school their parent teaches at.

Honestly! I can understand that you have to be careful when dating someone you're directly involved with, e.g. a GP dating a patient. But what's the world coming to when people are too scared to have a drink or whatever with someone who happens to have a child in their class? What's the worry? That the teacher fakes the end of term report to show little Johnny as brighter than he really is? That teacher fiddles the SATS results? Why is it unprofessional? We're talking about kids at school, not insider trading. Are we really that uptight and paranoid??

I have a friend who started a relationship with her daughter's teacher, they all lived happily ever after. I guess not all teachers dread it.

I'm certainly thinking troll but it's an interesting subject nonetheless. I didn't realise teachers had such limited dating options. No wonder they just seem to shag each other!

I have a teacher friend who lives in hope that a handsome single dad will appear at the gates, nothing so far.

A teacher who got involved with a parent would be the talk of the entire student body for about two years with the story getting further and further from the truth and more and more like something out of Waterloo Road!

It's not a question of being uptight. The fallout of a relationship that breaks down (especially where one party may then hold a grudge) is potentially massively damaging.

It's just common sense, and something that any headteacher would probably have a coronary over if they suspected it was happening in their school. We are advised to have no contact with children or their parents outside school - including facebook etc - for our own protection.

My job is hard enough wthout me opening myself up to accusations of favouritism as well.

It's quite a different thing to be the existing parent of a child in your school, than it is to deliberately start up a new relationship with a parent..

Yeah, maybe. But it's a sad world we live in if teachers need to 'protect' themselves like this.
