Air Passenger Duty- list of tariffs

Is there a web site of a list of tariffs for Air Passenger Duty. Is there the same charge if you fly to anywhere in the Caribbean from a UK airport. Are the Canary Islands classified as Spain as they come under the Spanish government. I do not know how the tariffs are calculated but it does seem to be most unfair. We can understand high charges/tariffs for flights within the UIK as there is an alternaive means of transport i.e Rail and Road

APD is government speak for = Scam.
  • The document mentioned above is very lengthy andthere is a lot to wade through. Could anyone possibly answer simply if the air passenger duty to all Caribbean islands is the same and if so how much is it. Otherwise can you direct me to the specific web page that gives a list of places and charges. Interesting point about the Canary Islands as they are governed by Spain from Madrid

The caribbean Islands are all in band C for Air Passenger Duty.

The band an airport is in depends on the distance of the Capital city of that country's capital from the UK.

All European countries, due to EU restrictions, have to be the same band, as to do otherwise would distort the internal market. This means all European countries are rated in the lowest band (Band A).

Given this, as the Canary Islands are part of Spain, the band journeys to the Canary Islands are is Band A. This is currently £12 for economy ( £13 from April) or double that if you fly in a higher class than economy.

This can lead to bizarre inconsistencies as a trip to Hawaii is based on the distance between London and Washington DC, and ignores the extra couple of thousand miles involved.

You must have written that a year ago as its been £13 for about the same amount of time and will not increase for band A come April 2013.

  • From the above posts my understanding is that the Air Passenger duty to all Caribbean Islands from the 1st April 2013 will be £166 per person. Is that correct?. Is the duty only payable on outbound flights or is the same duty applicable to flights into the UK. Thank you

  • The post from Doshwaster is most helpful. When airlines quote the price for a flight is there somewhere on their websites one can find a breakdown of the costs like above. I was amazed at how high a proportion of the cost was for the fuel surcharge. Are all airlines the same?

Some airlines give you the total taxes then you can click to see a breakdown. Alternatively try http://www.itasoftware.com/
